No. Definitely Young Jonny Bairstow. Bumble had been calling him that for some time before he disappeared from the Sky Commentary team. It would sound a bit clunky to be saying “Yorkshire’s….” Every time wouldn’t it?
All cricketers of Bumble and David Bairstow’s age referred to him as Young Bairstow ( or young Jonny ) maybe because they knew his father. I met Boycott about 15 yrs ago in a golf clubhouse. He was sat on his own which wasn’t unusual. Our party had a few words, mainly about this up and coming stumper at Yorks and would he be as good as his dad etc. At that time, Jonny looked like being primarily a wicketkeeper but Boycott referred to him as young Bairstow and perhaps Bumble introduced the Jonny bit ! Sir Geoffrey did however stress that he was going to be a top class batsman who could also keep wicket ……..
