I'd disagree on that. I recently bought the first half dozen books, have read first two, just can't get into them.
That's probably because, having seen the films... you're expecting something else. I haven't read one for 50 years but going from memory they don't have the fantastic gadgets and are much lower key, but better stories.
Love Bond movies, never watched one i aint liked, but Dr No is mi favourite, 25 been med nar an would give em all a good 7 or above.
Most of them are crap really. Especially most of Roger Moores, they were just cringe. Early Sean Connery’s were great Goldeneye my favourite because nostalgia, & Goldeneye 64! Daniel Craig’s Casino Royale is probably the best though.
That cannot be voted the worst because it's got in Ana De Armas arguably the greatest Bond girl, but that's a debate for another thread.
Goldeneye always gets the plaudits, but I always had a soft spot for Goldeneye Rogue Agent on the PS2. It got panned by the critics, but I always loved that game even though first person shooters aren't my genre at all.
I had to put them all in order: The Spy Who Loved Me From Russia With Love Spectre Casino Royale On Her Majesty's Secret Service Goldeneye Moonraker Live and Let Die Licence to Kill Octopussy Skyfall Goldfinger Tomorrow Never Dies Diamonds are forever Dr. No No Time To Die The World is Not Enough Thunderball Quantum of Solace Die Another Day A View to a Kill You Only Live Twice The Living Daylights For Your Eyes Only The Man With the Golden Gun

I like that for a few reasons. One of my best mates Paul (he was left wing for U11, I was right wing) suddenly went missing in action in the 6 week holidays. Didn't join us for footy or cricket, didn't come knocking to play out. Turned out he'd lost his left leg to cancer. We became close in his recovery (I was the only one who knew about his wig at school). Good mates. He was determined not to miss out on the skateboard craze of 1977 and learnt to ride his road bike (Raleigh Arena). A car dealer, Garnetts of Guiseley, a Lotus dealership on Rawdon Roundabout, learnt of his story and befriended him. We had weekend trips to sit in the cars, flick through the glossy brochures. Then they blagged him a trip to Norfolk to be the guest of Anthony Colin Bruce Chapman; he was treated like royalty and test drove their three 'current' cars, the Elan, Esprit and Eclat. The Esprit was obviously 'wow' due to being the Bond car for the Spy who Loved Me. On leaving Norfolk, he was given lots of goodies, including a dented front wing, the very wing that was damaged when PPW 306R drove off the pier and hit the waves. It obviously became our favourite film. I was always fascinated too at that age by the final rolling credits ..... 'filmed on location in (real locations), Pinewood studios and Outer Space'. The wonders of childhood imagination!!
I’m a bit of a James Bond fan (understatement!). I’d say Die Another Day was the worst of the official Bond films. I sat horrified in the cinema watching it, thinking it had just ended the entire franchise, cos it was so bad. The underwater scenes in Thunderball are dull and far too long though, so they do drag that film down a bit. SPECTRE was also very disappointing, How can they get one of cinema’s greatest ever actors to play one of cinema’s greatest ever villains and make him so dull?! The Man With The Golden Gun is just about saved by the great Christopher Lee and the ones where Connery and Moore were getting on a bit (Diamonds Are Forever, Octopussy and A View To A Kill) are a bit of a chore. The two unofficial Bonds aren’t very good either. Never Say Never Again is awful on almost every level, whilst Casino Royale is only good whenever Woody Allen is onscreen. However, the soundtrack to the 1967 Casino Royale, by Burt Bacharach and Herb Alpert, is absolutely fantastic, and is my favourite ‘Bond’ soundtrack. OHMSS, the Craig Casino Royale, Goldfinger and From Russia With Love are my favourites of the official series’ scores. At the other end of the scale, the Craig Casino Royale is probably my favourite Bond film (with my favourite Bond girl!), with From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, OHMSS, Live And Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me, Goldeneye and Skyfall pushing it close. I also really like The World is Not Enough, which isn’t usually one of the more popular films in the series. So Connery, Moore, Brosnan and Craig each made one of my favourites and what I consider one of the worst, whereas Lazenby, possibly the weakest Bond, is in one of the greatest films. It could be argued that Connery would have been better in that film, but he was already a bit long in the tooth and I don’t think he’s have been as good as Lazenby in the final scene. Timothy Dalton was a great Bond, but wasn’t in either one of the best films, or one of the worst films. Both his films are in the middle of the pack. It’s a shame he wasn’t given one of the great films, because he would then have been ranked up there with Connery and Craig. Regarding the novels v the films, in general the films are far better. The books, all having been written in the 50s/vearly 60s are a lot more dated. They don’t have as much of the outlandish aspects of the films though, but if the films accurately reflected the books, Bond would be rolling around pissed all through the film, cos he doesn’t half get through some booze! Two of the films, From Russia With Love and OHMSS are very much like their respective novels, whilst other books have set pieces that subsequently crop up in different films. The book that is nothing like the film is The Spy Who Loved Me, but there’s a good reason for that. The book is pretty nasty and reveals the more misogynistic aspect of Fleming’s character. It caused such an uproar when it came out that Fleming subsequently refused to give permission for them to use any aspect of the book, apart from its title.
I'll have a go at answering this, it's because the films always seem to involve a super villain who has his own army of followers, willing to die for him, he has unlimited wealth and wants to take over the world and even has spaceships that could be a danger to the entire planet,,,,, too far fetched for even the most malleable of minds,,,,,,,,,,oh, hang on though......
Not just an attractive bond girl, but she played the part brilliantly, full of sass and humour. She was a highlight of the film.
