For me, it's more like talking to someone during the match like I would at Oakwell. And in all honesty a professional football player should know if they've played well or not, and what needs working on.
Thowt Cauley was off his usual game 1st half and said so to my son..In my opinion he is a number 10 not a 9 and plays better in a free role just off the front. Obviously this would require the purchase of an out and out striker which is what a lot on here are calling for...but he is the best player to wear a Reds shirt for quite some time.
He’s scored the most goals and made the most assists so far this season. Even if you took away his pens (not sure why you would) he’d be joint top scorer. He’s our best forward by quite some distance and we’d be screwed without him
Just bizarre people wanting to pick fault with the best players in the team while we’re on a great run. Honestly don’t get the motivation.
And you’re watching a different game if you think he’s only in the side because he can convert a penalty. He wasn’t great in the first half, but he was almost carrying the front line because the other two were anonymous. Was much better second half and set up the winner.
It is, I agree, which is why I made the point. Think you're being way over critical and that without him we wouldn't have won any of the games in this good run.
He will hit top form soon,Woodrow is the main man for team spirit and winning, always try’s even when it’s not sticking
It's called being a football fan. It's how it's worked for many decades. Opinions, arguments, discussions. Yes we're on a decent run, yes Cauley is the best striker at the club, but can you, hand on heart, say that he's at his best right now?? He isn't and I merely suggested that a rest might benefit him. I might be wrong and hope that we see our best forward back to his best as soon as possible.
Gosh, you've got a low threshold!! I think if I'd said 'hes sh.it', then that could rightly be deemed 'over critical'. I merely suggested that he's clearly not at his best, and wondered with transfer talk increasing, whether that was affecting his game. Hardly over critical, but hey-ho....
Not sure about him needing a rest, but I think both he and the gaffer are both desperate for another striker who can take the burden of being the side's main goal threat/assist maker off his shoulders a bit. We're in a similar situation with Woodrow as Spurs have been with Kane for a good few years now. Both are our best center-forwards and probably the first name on the team sheets, but if they are having an off day or not fit, it leaves a huge hole in the sides. I'm not sure Victor is that man to spearhead the attack(yet), as I think his attributes lend themselves to playing in the wider forward roles, bullying the fullbacks(as he did when he came on yesterday). So the club has the issue of finding a Championship quality striker, that will be happy to play second fiddle and sit on the bench, to start with anyway. I really don't envy the person tasked with finding that player..
I don’t know if the right player exists, especially with resale value/wage concerns etc, but someone in a similar mould to Jason Scotland when he was here would be perfect imo. Come off the bench and get goals
I don't think transfer talk will be affecting his game. (Not actually seen any rumours myself). His effort levels look far higher than they were at the end of last season, as is his goal and assist return. Hopefully there is improvement in him and we see more of the clinical, first time finishing, like the one that was pulled back for our pen against Wycombe. That would also be dependant on chances being created for him in the box. I wouldn't be against him being rested for a game given his workload, but I think on current form, he walks into our best available team and we'd struggle to buy a better striker.
Honestly, under this system I don't think you're ever going to see him playing like he was 18 months or a year ago. I think when you're working that hard off the ball I don't think it's easy to be perfect on the ball. I think he's doing everything we could reasonably expect of anyone, especially starting twice a week every week. Look at combined goals and assists, he's top 5 in the division. Look how bad we looked without him at Cardiff.
You can say you don’t think someone’s at their best but saying they want dropping & need a rest is ridiculous in my opinion. They’re outstanding players for us. They might occasionally have a game where they aren’t at their best but they’re likely to bounce straight back the next game as they’re quality players for us.
