Winnalls 'non celebration'?!?

Bugger all to it, in my opinion. In fact, the thread reminds me of the act done by Les Dawson & Roy Barraclough when playing the gossiping characters Cissie & Ada!

Have to agree, this thread has gone way over the top based on pure speculation mixed in with a pinch of abuse. I'm half expecting to read next that Sam shot JFK, ffs!

Against Reading and Brighton, all I saw was a committed but frustrated footballer who, thankfully, cares. (He was the first half of a dual substitution in the Reading game so wasn't the rate limiting factor anyway).

I don't know the reasons for the non-celebration of the goal last night but with regards to being straight down the tunnel I do know he was out of the ground very sharpish (I was behind his personalised number plate Merc). I don't want to heap speculation on speculation but maybe he had personal/family issues, eg health of a relative to deal with. It's as good a reason as owt else on this thread.

Well done Sam, play like you did last night and I don't give a **** whether you do sixteen cartwheels, a handstand and mosh into the front row of the Ponty or not.

 

I think it's a fecking disgrace how people are quick to jump on his back. The blokes playing at the highest level he's ever played at and has obviously taken time to adjust. All this criticism is ridiculously unfair.

 

I didn't go to Brighton, but the thing that strikes me about Winnall isn't his lack of work rate. That's the one thing he is consistent with every game. Sometimes his ability to link play may be lacking, but never his heart.

But like I say, didn't go on Saturday so that may have been the case

Sam has a bit of a bad attitude at times what let's him down. His deliberate slow walk at been subbed against reading, his kicking water bottles over at Brighton, his non celebration and then his walking straight down tunnel not acknowledging the fans. If you cant take critism and been subbed/left out when you aren't playing well you are in the wrong game.

 

I sincerely hope he hasn't got the monk on with supporters. I can't remember another player having as many songs sung about him, for nearly whole halves at a time during the last couple of seasons. He's adored by the fans, with the only criticism being reasonably fair and legitimate concerns over a couple of his performances, largely within the context of having excellent other options available. Hopefully he's frustrated for the right reasons, because a late goal against Villa must have been as good as anything he hoped for this season.

 

Winnall made two defensive clearances in our box last night - how anyone can question his attitude is beyond me, I fecking love the guy!

 

His slow walk against Reading was poor and I hope Hecky had a word with him because we were losing and he could have got off the pitch much quicker. Even if his family/friends tend to support Villa that would have been a poor reason not to celebrate the goal. I know dozens of Huddersfield Town fans personally, have nothing against the club but if I played pro football for any side against them and scored i'd bloody love it that little bit more knowing I could rip into so many with banter about it.

He wants to run down his contract with us which is his choice but if people want to question him or his commitment from his performances or picking that option, that is their choice as well.

 

Conor got the monk on with supporters last season, when he thought they had booed the team at half time at Crewe. I sometimes get the impression the relationship is still a bit strained.

 

Maybe he was just being a cool ass mother fvcker who shows no emotion when he scores a 9th minute equaliser.

As usual I think people are reading far too much into things.

I've always thought that Sam looks angry when he scores anyway.

Yep that's what I see. He even continues to celebrate when heading back to the halfway line too. Think people are just dying to find some fault in something BFC related after an excellent start to the season and what is in my opinion a really good result against Villa.

 

It does look like he stops celebrating because of the pitch invaders. I remember when people went on after the wallsall game he was kicking off with a few and telling em to get off. We seem to have a few too many pitch invaders after goals of late, I can understand people been excited we scored a late equilizer against a team worth about 70million. I don't care if you do cart wheels down the ponty stairs but going on pitch? Why? The players don't want you to keep off especially at home.

My issue I had with sam is still is attitude at times last season he blasted the ball into the east stand when he was pissed off, kicking the water bottles over v Brighton, storming down tunnel after last night not even clapping the fans, and slow walking when subbed against reading. You just look like a little brat doing stuff like that. He is a fans favourite my kids love sam but ffs grow up. Imagine if marley watkins or sam morsey got monk on last night when subbed at 1 down and slow walked it they would have got some right hammer. Sam got off lightly, he is a talented lad and a goalscorer but lose the attitude please.

 

I remember being annoyed about that. Kicking over water bottles etc. is petty but I couldn't care less but booting the ball like that at fans is different, he could have hit someone. I know anyone could get hit by a stray ball at any point of the match but you don't expect one of your players to purposefully boot it into a crowd of his own fans just because he's a bit peed off.

I think he just gets a bit passionate (a good thing) but perhaps doesn't channel it in the best way at times which seems to be quite common amongst footballers.

 

It's a great post . Sam must realise that wherever he goes after us he won't be idolised like he is here . No matter what has happened behind the scenes he could have just given the fans a little wave . He should be celebrating now more than ever after putting the spade work in over the last couple of years to get us and him where we are now . His body language was crap .
