I wouldn’t take him. It’s not that he’s injury prone it’s that he had one serious injury, I think it was his knee & he had about a year out injured with it & hasn’t looked the same player since he recovered. The contract he got was fantastic financially. The papers reported he quadrupled his wages to £18,000 a week at the time but on a footballing level it was an awful move. He was behind Fletcher, Forestieri, Hooper & Rhodes in the pecking order & also had Joao & Nuhiu to battle with. Madness.
Ye..was going to say returning players rarely re-capture the glory off the period they had first time round...then ya mentioned Adam and ah thowt hmmmm. but Fonzie is right about Hammill being a better more complete player and had adjusted his game when he returned and fitted what we needed. Winnall on the other hand disrespected a club legend and despite the stick he was getting ( what did he expect) on his return with wendies could have been a better man when he scored against us. Now, too old, no form, too long on bench, looking for a payday, also anybody considered that he might tell us the f**k off even if we were interested
Why would we? He split the fans before he pissed off to Washday, he has talked the talk since, but failed to back it up with any kind of form, I always suspected that he sat on the bench a lot because he wasn’t particularly a popular individual. Nah no thanks
Clinical finisher. I'd have him back. However not sure he fits the gaffers style of play, seems to like players that work the channels.
Personally, I wouldn't want him back if the stories of his less than impressive behind the scenes attitude were true. To do what he did when it was the day of Mr Rimmington's funeral left a particularly bitter taste in my mouth. Another aspect is the lack of football he's played over the last three and a half years, for one reason or another. However, if Mr Struber wants him (or any other player, for that matter), then I hope our club backs the Head Coach.
