I got the detail off the neil brown website, so I bow to the accuracy of "who's who of Bfc" I very much doubt it was all he did, but my memory was always of him scoring goals with his head
The man they called "Rambo". Andy Rammell. Scored 2 goals in my first ever live match(cant remember who it was against) and from that moment on i worshipped the bloke!
Re: Marlon? 64 goals in 126 appearances from 1962 to 1964. Another BFC player who sadly died at a relatively young age. He developed MS in 1976 which turned to MN and he died in 1978 aged 39.
Pat Howard - what a great player. An earlier version of Mick McCarthy! Ended his career at Bury. When I worked in Bolton in the early 80's, I'm sure I saw a sports shop (or fishing shop!) in Bury called Pat Howard Sports/Fishing. Can anyone confirm this?
Owen archdeacon for me. quiet hard working left midfielder. i played on the left wing myself and he did everything that a left winger should have done. net him at a charity fundraising event that my dad arranged to raise money for the disabled stand to have headphones and new sound proof glass. top top bloke very honest and just such a genuine gentleman.
Sir Ronnie. The game changed when he got the ball near the opponents box, you could feel the crowd come alive too with expectation, was quite something for a young kid
Mick Butler (obviously). What a goalscorer. Lightening quick in the box and a deadly finisher, he must have weighed no more than 9 stone. He took some fearful stick from some real hard nut 70's centre halves, suffering 2 broken legs and still came back for more. Think he once score three successive hat tricks too. Bobby Doyle and Ali Millar were also early heroes when I first watched the Reds as a child.
Mick Butler. Watched him play for Worsbrough Bridge and thought what a great striker he was. Next thing he was in Barnsley first team scoring loads, sometimes after doing the day shift down Barrow pit!
