It’s one of the more bizarre things to happen to Barnsley FC in the last five years, and there’s been a few. It would make my top five, probably even top three, because I can’t even come up with a scenario where this allowed to happen other than Dane just not completing lined up paperwork on the day and vanishing in to the abyss like Joe Black
it’s a difficult comparison. The step up in divisions is like launching a new range or store. You’d expect that to require a capital input of some kind. Football isn’t a real business I guess is the bottom line in that though.
We've not sold any apart from Chaplin (although even the CEO forgot we'd sold him) because and this is from the horses well CEO's mouth they haven't had any bids for them. Your right I don't think the board deserve any credit for anything because for every good decision they make theres a handful of bad ones coming just round the corner. The are bad owners end of debate they are running clubs into the ground all over Europe and while this probably isn't deliberate it is a sign that they just don't know what they are doing another sign of this is their unnerving ability to fritter away every piece of good luck and or success they've had without taking advantage of the situation to move the club on in fact it's gone backwards under their tenure. They are bad owners and I want them out and when I say them I mean the whole ownership gone, the 80% mob and their enablers the Crynes. BTW the comment about aliens and fax machines was sarcasm in that the alien nicking the fax machine was a more likely scenario for us not selling players than the board turning down offers was. I think the board want there to be a fire sale this window the problem is they've even managed to scupper that with their self imposed style change disaster.
Depending on how successful you are, or how long you’ve been around, you’d either negotiate really good terms on the lease/rent or have an excellent line of credit for brand extensions/launches. I guess overdraft facilities and loans are sanctioned all the time rather than the owners ‘putting money in’ every year? You’re right thiugh. Way too complicated to compare
There does appear to be some financial mismanagement. Agree there is no point telling them to sod off but they inherited a relatively solvent business and have eaten through the available capital fairly quickly. I wouldn’t put us a million miles from administration after relegation. Given their equally poor PR I would expect seasons ticket sales to be 60% of current total and add to that the list revenue. We need a big sale to help us cover that.
Again though. Which is it? Fire sale and willing to accept offers for the entire squad or not selling anyone because of the alien and the fax machine? The rest of your post is a valid opinion and your opinion but not one I feel as strongly on as you do. Also don’t want to use some of the terms, but I probably agree with the majority of the sentiment to an extent.
Yeah it’s an impossible comparison. I do think our model works better on L1. I’m not saying there is some big conspiracy to relegate us but the development side is a lot easier against poorer teams. The big sales have been from players that made their name in L1 and carried that form into the Championship. That involves smaller investment smaller risk and potentially more reward. The downside is the loss of income. To balance that out you need great PR and the fans on side. We have neither.
We live in a world of innumerable leisure opportunities. Sentiment can only go so far. I’ve started to dread going to Oakwell. It’s depressing. Dilapidated. The match day ‘experience’ is non existent. The relationship between fans and the club feels token. I have no connection or feeling towards the owners. I think the right course of action is to take the route that Blackpool supporters did. While you may think that ongoing support is the only option others don’t and they are entitled to that point of view.
I don’t know the facts but that would seem to say that our costs per match are 250k. Even away matches that we don’t have to fund. And that discounts the TV money which is probably reasonable. Just seems odd to me.
Talking revenue not costs. I was seeing the ‘costs’ as meaning missed revenue opportunities or monies we lost out on. I might be wrong on that interpretation mind.
It's they want a fire sale but aren't getting the offers you know even our board will struggle to sell players nobody wants to buy maybe they should try having a slot on one of those late night shopping slots on ITV.
I am surprised that 40 % of people that voted have gone for these owners to invest their own money in to the club, this would put us in debt to them. I wouldnt trust these owners when stuck with a large debt to do whats best for Barnsley fc, The likelyhood of their investment being a success in the championship is low. The owners wouldnt walk away losing millions, if its us or them losing out i know who it will end up being.
In fairness it’s worse as pretty much all those contracts were agreed while the 80% were running the club.
In fairness it’s not always that straightforward. I had a guy working with me brilliant kid and great at his job. His wife wanted to go back to Mexico. I was gutted then a month before his visa expired she changed her mind. We tried to keep him but it was just too late and we threw a lot of resources at it.
I think it might be different at senior exec level. Especially if you’re a director or a CEO of a business.
Regarding Dane and visas etc. Did we actually benefit at all from letting him hire his girlfriend in a key role?
yeah you could be right though his role was fairly business critical and the corporate ‘we’ probably have more money and resources than BFC do. Just trying to be fair to the owners Visa stuff is definitely not easy
