Who wants these owners to spend their own money on BFC

Last season we were locked out of Oakwell and happy to take whatever was on offer. The results went largely in our favour, but still there were rumblings of discontent about the style of play (including my own reservations). Not everyone was happy. If Oakwell had been open for business, fans would have been on the players' backs most games and the season would have been completely different.

I dare say you're right that this season's football, results, and league position have led to some people sharpening their knives with added vigour. That doesn't mean they don't have a valid opinion. But bear in mind that we've had bad seasons before, so if supporters are so angry that they're creating Facebookgroups, etc., then surely you can see that this all feels a little different. There's more to it than a poor side and a looming relegation.

Personally I'm not convinced that the protests, etc. will lead to anything positive, and I have no intention of signing up to such things, but again, that's down to personal preference. Individuals can do as they see fit. If I stay away next season, it will be my own decision.

As to me naming specific posters. Your closing remark came across as a scattergun comment, aimed at anyone and everyone who chooses to stay away. You may not have intended it in that way, but that's the way it read. I merely chose 3 longtime supporters (the first 3 that came to mind) who l know are staying away despite years and years of support. There are many others I could have named.

I do appreciate that you want the club to survive in the long term. But so does everyone else, even if you think their actions are misguided.

 

What additional prize money are you referring to? I didn't think there was any such structure outside the Premier League where prize money goes up the higher you finish. I always thought in the football league finishing 1st in the championship gets the same as the team finishing bottom in terms of the money split?

He then went onto to say that the style of play was not sustainable and mentioned a number of reasons why he believed it was only successful in the short term (5 subs, no fans etc).

So whilst he didn't explicitly say that we've changed the style to be able to sell players, it certainly does read that way. It reads as though a successful season should be judged by number of bids and sales, rather than league position.

Conway definitely seems to spread himself too thinly, which is quite an achievement seeing as there's a lot of him. I'm looking into the situation at his other clubs at the moment and last night I was reading how he has got involved with other consortiums who are buying football clubs in an advisory capacity. He does seem to be highly regarded in those circles.

My interpretation is obviously different to yours, but to mention a chance in playing style, glossing over a hugely successful season before bemoaning the lack of player sales reads that way to me.

Suppose it's something for him to clarify at the Q and A.

I'm fearful that we as fans could make our situation worse by starting these campaigns. There does seem to be a "teddy-out-of-cot" propensity with at least one of our owners and there's the risk we could push them into doing something that could have been avoided. It may already be too late. The one hope I have is that they won't want anything too negative to go onto their CV, when they are still trying to acquire other clubs.

 

The snag is Warnock is seriously expensive.

 

No, it’s due to ensuring equal rights from TV, the theory being when it came in a bigger club would more likely finish higher and would create a bit of a monopoly so to speak.

 

We aren’t just having a ‘bad season’ though are we? To be honest, I’m beginning to think you are just a WUM.

 

I'll put my 55 years support on the table. I have never abused anyone in my life (although Thatcher, Farage, Trump and Johnson have prompted a fair amount of bile). My protest will simply involve withdrawing my support, financial and otherwise, unless and until there is major change at the club. By this I mean that the current owners start behaving as if they care about the club, the town, the club's employees and its supporters. They need to radically alter their business model that is not only clearly unsuccessful, but actually renders support for the club pointless, in that any level of success will simply be followed by the inevitable sale of any assets that may have brought it about in the first place. And then the cycle repeats. In other words, nothing will be built over the medium to long term. Soul destroying. Or, they move on and people who actually care about the club take over. As far as I'm concerned, if neither of these things happen then, quite frankly, I'll sadly say goodbye to an institution that has been a major part of mine and my family's life for decades.

 

I think you would need to ask yourself if they ever cared. Certainly not in the way you or I do. But look, if you genuinely believe the things you are posting then good luck to you. I sincerely hope that in another 15 years you are not as disillusioned as I am now.
