My only issue with that is that at 37 years old, after putting all that work in at Peterborough, McGoldrick looked a bit tired at Wimbledon. I don't think he would have missed that chance if he'd been feeling super sharp. I thought he deserved a well earned rest.

That's not a criticism of McGoldrick, it's the same criticism that has been levelled at the club for years. We employ a scattergun approach to recruitment and don't target the areas where we need players. We need an alternative to McGoldrick and we haven't got one, so he's got to play.

We've tried MDG and Earl for 18 months and they keep on making the same mistakes. We shipped out Shepherd on loan for the last 18 months because he wasn't good enough. He's still not good enough. But we've gone with these three for the upcoming season, not addressing the situation at all.

Meanwhile, we selected Connell, Phillips and Kelly as our midfield three. I'd argue Vickers and DKD are also midfielders. And on the bench we had Bland, Yoganathan, and Russell. I personally think if we'd selected Bland, Yoganathan and Russell we would have won the game. It's utterly nuts that the three midfielders on the bench are comparable with the three on the pitch when we only have one centre forward who is nearly 38. And this situation is the same as it has been for years. We've even frozen out another midfield player in Nwakali. We support a club that thinks it's OK to have one centre forward who is 37 years old and has a dozen midfielders who could be the best midfielders for three League 1 teams. I'm not surprised people are confused when giving their opinion of the game. It's mental.
