I heard it was something to with a misunderstanding over some footballs and training equipment he donated to a local team.
The problem we have if we go up is that the players above will struggle in the Championship. Our plan is to get players in and develop them to the required standards so them not being in the team last season is irrelevant to that plan. We were developing them for the future just as we are with Green for example now. Of our current team I’d only have confidence that Pinnock and Lindsay would make the transition easily enough though woodrow and Brown probably will it depends how much we have developed them over the last 2 years. You are thinking too short term for the plan.
I would argue that Moore and Mowatt can make the step up, under the right manager and environment. I wouldn't be surprised to see Pinillos and Cavare do well next season, either, should we go up. I don't think you can write Davies off, either, although it's unlikely he'll still be with us. Then you have players like Dougall, who is an unknown, but wouldn't surprise me if he stepped up. Finally, I know I'm massively in the minority here, but I think Thiam could cause some damage in the Championship, under Stendel. I'd keep him, anyway.
I agree about Thiam. People will sight the solitary goal from the spot away at Millwall. However, he had some bad luck in front of goal and was in and out of the team. I still think had we not recruited Williams and Gardner and sent Mcgeehan and Mowatt out on loan we'd have stayed up.
I think most of the current team, under the right guidance and given patience, would do ok next season. Remember, we’ve already been told our first season or two would be about consolidation. Anyway, the whole point of our business model, is that these should be able to make the jump up in division (or most of them) otherwise we don’t bring in enough transfer fees to cover our operating costs. We don’t develop and nurture players for L1 or L2 as obviously there’s no money in it. We do it for the Champ and PL transfer. So whilst there’ll always be some who don’t cut it, the majority should be ok, with perhaps some additions. If we can get in a couple of unknown Lads from Nice for a season on loan, that might spring a surprise in the league too. Although for that, I’d imagine it’d help that Thiam and Cavare would be here to help them settle (if French).
Most will be fine - still believe it was coaching rather than players. We will need additions in certain positions- think spine of team down middle of the park is more than good enough
Can I have another dig at Hecky for sending out Bird, Mcgeehan and Mowatt on loan and banishing Mallan to the reserves and bringing two carthorses in Gardner and Williams.
That wasn't my point though although I do think Davies, pinnock,Lindsay, mowatt and Woodrow could make the step up posibilly cavare I'd fancy our chances against any of the bottom 6 championship sides this season. My point was you and django were comparing stendel to Johnson as this side had a year playing together last season to gel. That isn't true.
Opinions he did okay 1st half of the season Williams but him and Gardner together was abit too sideways backwards. Just my opinion but Harvey barnes was the standout player from the 1st half of the season with his goals and assists.
If I was being generous I'd say you're being a bit liberal with the facts there. If I was being honest I'd say you're making stuff up to suit your argument.
He's a winger. Not his fault that an inept manager played him as a lone striker for much of the start of the season.
Are you really going to use a good manager as a scapegoat to justify Thiam's abhorrent performances last year?
