Not sure many could argue without a change of mindset from the coach and some of the players. You saw how fragile our confidence is just by seeing the equaliser. It’s one of the reasons, when we’ve got such a young team, I couldn’t condone some of the mid game chanting and booing at Blackpool. Doesn’t help anybody - but Schopp does need to start helping himself first.
I watched tonight and thought it was like watching us under Stendel. It was like Barnsley 1-3 Brentford. Woodrow had that chance in 52nd minute that no one followed up to make it 2-0. As crap as it was if that goes in we shut up Schopp. He misses and next effort was Iseke's header in 89th minute. Fine margins.
We've brought this pressure and lack of confidence upon ourselves, We really need to beat Millwall to stop the rot but it's hard to be optimistic at the minute.
Ive also noticed the lack of fitness. (Not to be confused with effort. The players are putting in effort) But Val wouldn't let our defence and midfield **** about. So maybe the back to front based play we did do, didn't require all 11 to run around like headless chickens.
Definitely an element of that for sure. I think the expectation is playing a pivotal role with some supporters and their feelings, but at the end of the day Blackpool and the last 30 minutes today simply aren’t good enough and deserve answers. I think Schopp is on a knife edge heading in to the Millwall game. Position becomes untenable if we perform this way again. Think it was you that said it, but the players need to come out on Saturday with their chests puffed out and a point to prove. Schopp’s job is to set them up properly and to get that fire in to them.
I don’t know if we were super fit under Val because the ball spent so much time in the air and we rotated the front three who put in the majority of the work. It gave that impression of being fit and relentless but outside of Mowatt and the wing backs did we cover that much ground? Wasn’t much box to box running like what is expected now.
That's what I was trying to say. We looked super fit, because we hounded the opposition in the right places. Only the front 3 ran a lot. Hence his constant changes of the front 3. Nobody else did, because it was get rid, get it on the oppositions half. At Blackpool, I saw brittain running his nads off. Again not to be confused with lack off effort. It was there. He didn't get the ball often enough in the space he was running into. Because schopp wants to go through the centre. So, I will defend the players all day/night long for effort, it's the tactics that are screwed. In fact at one point to the end, kitchen nearly hit the deck. His legs had gone. But he still pushed himself to make a late challenge. He was ******. So, not as fit as we think they were. Ismail, smart bloke. Knew how to get results. 8 months, and he was poached. WBA knew what they were getting. And he will succeed IMO
The players owe us a performance, absolutely, but if they've lost complete faith in schopp then I can't see that performance happening at the weekend. Or if it does then it's likely to be a one off. I think Schopp should go now, it's not nice sacking a head coach, but he looks completely out of his depth. One lucky win against Coventry is all he's delivered this season.
Yeah, it does make sense. There was definitely an intent to press, which we’ve not really seen since qpr, which was good to see. I’m not convinced it was a particularly organised press, given the whole team were taken out of the game by one pass. But that could be because we undermined it ourselves by losing it as soon as we won it high. I guess I see the sliding of the centre backs to cover the wing backs as part of the organisation of the pressing game. Saw it under Ismael and Struber (when we had games when there was debate on whether we played a back 3 or 4), where Schopp seems to expect the team to transition very quickly when we lose or win the ball.
I thought second half especially the press was well organised in terms of those who went hunting for the ball, and we forced Forest to either go long or for Samba to try and dunk it to the touch line - at which point we were racing up the pitch and more often than not winning that ball and retaining possession. The equaliser came from our own attack don’t forget, with Frieser getting caught on the ball and then a bounce that went against us. The blistering Forest counters though, were there all half to exploit our setup.
The game plan tonight was to make all our players look crap, so no one will buy them in January…. Then we make a push for the playoffs….
