Yep! Big differences between a bit of 'mischief and downright vandalism. We used to do pretty tame stuff... Bullroar was OK since most drainpipes were cast iron no problem then...nowadays would melt plastic and cause expensive damage. Washers tied to string sellotaped to windows, lobbing a few bangers over garden walls etc. was the usual stuff... Oh how we laughed. Worst thing my mates did was the old 'dog turd in the paper bag set alight on front doorsteps ring bell and run away' caper . Bit pathetic really. As for nicking stuff off milk floats as one person on here posted- that is theft, smashing bus shelter glass-well that is criminal damage and people wonder why councils run out of money having to spend thousands repairing vandalised stuff. Letting the handbrake off a milk float?. They weigh more than most cars with the batteries-- imagine one running out of control and hitting a pedestrian e.g. woman with a pram or pushchair. Thick as pig **** anyone who did that.
I agree, although some of the more mischievous kids of today know they can’t be touched…. Back when I was a nipper, if you got caught, you’d get a crack. You wouldn’t dare mouth at an adult fella, cos you’d more than likely end up with a couple of teeth missing.
In my day in Bolton on Dearne, (60s/70s) some lads got an old pram and cut off part of the handle and made what they called a "volley gun". They flattened the corner, chucked a lighted banger down the tube followed by a marble. They went round breaking windows. Could easily have killed somebody with it.
fireworks are much more powerful and destructive these days. We might have chucked bangers about but never set fire to cars and stuff or turned places into a virtual war zone. Personally I wouldn’t have a problem if the worst offenders were given a form of national service, theypatently aren’t fit to be walking amongst civilised folk at the moment.
I'm surprised at you showing such a piss poor lack of empathy towards people who are struggling and at how you appear to be tarring everyone with the same brush. A government report found that just 5% of households had put on a private fireworks display in the last 3 years. And guess which demographic were the most likely to attend these private displays. That's right, the richer folk in managerial jobs. Guess which was by far the least likely to attend or host them? Yep you've guessed it, it's the lower skilled and unemployed people. In fact they weren't just less likely, they were HALF as likely despite the fact that there are significantly more people in the low income demographic than there are in the high income demographic group. So you carry on knocking the people who are struggling to pay their bills and insinuating that they're spunking money up the walls despite the facts saying completely the opposite. Sorry if that's harsh but I'm sick of people taking pot shots at those who are struggling when that attitude allows the Tory scum to continue to do whatever it wants and blame it on the poor
Starts and ends with their parents I never did owt like that because I knew I'd have to façe the wrath of my old man when I got home and my kids never did owt like that because they knew they'd have to face me. Too many parents either don't give a **** what their kids are doing as long as it's not disturbing their drinking time or don't think their little princes and or princesses would do anything wrong so won't listen when told they are doing wrong.
