It must be so difficult to pick … especially when Garcia chose not to play at Wentworth and Rose finished in top ten
I only watch the Ryder cup when it comes to golf but from my perspective we need Garcia, he always seems to rise to the occasion.
Yeah that was discussed by Torrance and McGinley etc but the consensus was that it wouldn’t have been the case . Anyway, we’ve definitely got a side to win and it would have been good to have Rose and Garcia
I heard the same conversation and thought they said the opposite, that there was no way he'd have not played unless Harrington had told him he was a pick. Rose was a tough call. Stats suggest that over the year he wasnt as good as Westwood in some areas, but his recent form has been better..... On paper they should struggle quite badly, but it's the Ryder Cup, so who knows....
A few stats for the golfing stat nerds; which is probably just me. Needless to say it will be tough, very tough. I'd say this would be one of the best wins for some time if they pull it off. I'll post the invidivual stats later. For casual watchers who might wonder what they mean.........All numbers are combined averages of all players SG: Tee to Green = The number of shots a player gains over the rest of the field for all shots played from the tee, to the green - not incvluding putting. The higher the better. Arguably the most important stat in golf SG: Off the Tee = The number of shots a player gains over the rest of the field for all tee shots - not incvluding putting. The higher the better. SG: Approach: The number of shots a player gains over the rest of the field for all shots into the green (so 2nd shots in par 4s and 3rd shots on par 5s). The higher the better. SG: Putting: The number of shots a player gains over the rest of the field each time a putt is made. The higher the better. Rough Relative to Par: What's their average score each time they hit a ball in the rough. The lower the better. Greens in Regulation: How many greens do they hit on average when making their 2nd shot to par 4s and 3rd shots to par 5s. Scrambling: How many times do they make par on average when failing to hit the green in the required number of shots for the hole (basically chip & 1 putt). Sand Save: As above but from in a bunker arond the green
Harrington has recently gone public in saying that Garcia was almost certain to go barring losing a limb so I guess that was pretty certain. I must have misinterpreted the discussions. I’ll get mi coit
