I'm mindful of Bury who never got to sell their Football League Share because the administrators couldn't find buyers for the Club. PMG don't even have to put BFC in to administration. They might just decide to wind the Club up and shut down the enterprise if they've gone as far as they want to go with us. I remember John Dennis telling a Supporters Club meeting that this type of scenario was why he had been reluctant to bring outsiders on to the board who either had no previous affinity to the Town or to the Club. Once they got bored with BFC and their initial interest waned they would look to get out and this would destabilise the Club. The only reason administrators try to find a buyer for the Club is because, as others have alluded to here, sometimes the only assets a Club possesses might be a ground (not an issue here), playing staff and the Football League Share. As with Bury all the League have to do is relegate one less team but promote the same number and another Club in the pyramid will take up our Share. I would assume that if PMG pulled out of BFC without going in to administration then the players will become free agents.
Can I just say, people saying People only want PMG out because they’re foreign, you’re an idiot. It’s nothing to do with where the owners are from, it’s to do with their warped intentions and dangerous motives. If the same thing was happening under a kid from Gawber then I, and many others would still be wanting them out. There’s too many people on this forum who are constantly throwing the race/xenophobic card around, stop it. This lot who we have in charge have been chased out of other clubs for doing the exact same they’re doing to us, the Nice fans ******* hated Lee & Co. They’re a bunch of chancers who don’t give one ***** about our football club and they never have done, unless it involves lining their pockets. Last year Big Val gave us memories, allowed us to dream, created a winning mentality, turned league 2 players into premier league hopefuls. What do PMG say? The seasons was a failure as no one came in for our players. WOW! I look at it like this, if Mowatt was under contract we would have received a club record fee for him, but the club allowed him to run his contract down. If Dike was ours, he would also have been sold. I hate these owners, I really do. I don’t want them here anymore, but equally I realise we do need someone. They said to the fans “if you really want us to go then we will go”. In that case lads, I wish I could say it’s been a pleasure but it hasn’t. Cithi.
Not disagreeing nor agreeing with your post but just highlighting a contradiction . If the PMG wee only interested in the money then why did they let Mowatt contract run down ? If as you said we’d have claimed a record sale then surely they would have cashed in choose what the fan base thought ?
I just want us to be competitive and while our main focus is on profits from players and not results we wont be and in turn will alienate the fans. Wigan and their fan base are lancashires equivalent of donny if you started watching football in 2011 you may consider them a bigger attraction than us.
Because it’s a gamble. Let’s say mowatt said he wanted 17k a week and the club agreed to this, then in theory WBA would have to stump up around 7-9M for him. However, if the offer had never come in for him in the summer (which we all know it would have as his stats were insane) then the owners would have a player earning huge money on the books which takes more ££££ from their net.
But the problem is we are going to lose money every single year unless we sell our best players, which means we won’t progress. Honestly mate, I don’t think supporting BFC is for you because I think, in our lifetimes, we won’t be competitive in the Championship again. It isn’t 1999 anymore I’m afraid.
Just as an aside, I didn’t start watching football in 2011. Furthermore, I think that is very dismissive to young football supporters who understand the history of the game.
We’d easily get taken over. Yes, we’re not as attractive as other but we were the 25th best side in the best footballing country in the world last season. Wigan, Blackpool, Hull etc have all found new owners and somebody may risk their wealth for us. Granted we might end up with some barnpots but that’s the risk you take. This board is taking is nowhere.
Well i understand the history of the game and the current climate i think if the likes of hull wigan and blackpool can find new owners no reason we cant. And i remeber going to a f.a cup semi in 2008 with 35k other barnsley fans 3 years later wigan couldnt sell 20k there a rugby town same as hull (obviously hull been a city)
If blackpool, hull, millwall can be competitive dont see why we cant. Were not bottom in attendance figures. I been watching us since 1996 and ive never seen a season quite like this one and owners as clueless.
feels highly unlikely this would ever be a Barnsley fan though. when Patrick sold the club, it was end of an era for me. so yeah, as we're now essentially a business venture, there will always be interested parties, but I'm not convinced the operating model would be massively different, i.e. a set of people investing for ROI, which inevitably means developing players and coaches to make money from. I just can't see how we have any other way of functioning at championship level, any time soon. the economics have shifted too much against us, which feels like a reality check that many people still aren't ready to grasp. I'm so disillusioned now, more than I can remember. it's no fun being a Barnsley fan. on the pitch, off the pitch and the match day experience is just dreadful. it used to be me, are lass and my boy that would go. we would make a day of it. now they have no interest, and I don't even try to convince them. so I just go on my own. there's no enjoyment at all, and any enjoyment I do have is away from the ground. a pint somewhere else, and a pie from Oakwell sandwich. that's it. I would genuinely prefer us to be a community-owned club in non-league, than what we have right now.
Im feeling the same to be honest especially with the match day experience something they said they would improve is even worse. I even miss the blokes doing crossbar challange at half time,or little kids taking pens agaknst toby tyke or local young ens having a kick about... My young en still enjoys it the day with her dad a pint before and a walk to the ground to watch us lose if i renew it will be because she has twisted my arm.
I don't understand why they can't do some sort of competition for the kids again at half time . Toby Tyke is an asset!
And half time scores, kids taking pens against toby or crossbar challenge or local sides having a kick about doesnt cost anything.
