Serious question Phil (as was discussed on here). If the Barnsley side which won the playoffs were to play against the Russia side that lined up against England, who would be more likely to win? The atrocious Russia team, which got hammered by a Wales side which contained plenty of Championship players. I said it then and I'll say it now - Barnsley in their current form would beat Russia four times out of five. England failed to do that. I would also have fancied us to break down the Slovakian defense more than once over two games, and not to lose to Iceland.

England match was garbage but us not having a game was probably a positive. Gives our handful of new players best part of two weeks to get used to our way and gives those who have done brilliantly for us so far this season abit of a rest before a tough looking month with a couple of tuesdays thrown in.

It's absolutely right in context. Compared to what is expected of us Barnsley overachieve and play good football. England underachieve and look crap. There is a togetherness and unity in Barnsley's play that England lack completely.

I had hoped it would change under Allardyce but it looks like we're set for more of the same. I can't believe he's given an interview where he says Rooney plays where he wants and he doesn't tell him what to do.

I'm a Rooney fan and some of the hatred against him is way OTT however Sam seemed indicate that he told him to play in one position but he chose to play in another but he isn't going to say anything. What happens to managers that the minute they get the England job they loose all sense of leadership skills?!

For me, if a player was unable to play in the desired position he would be taken off rather quickly and never play again. Imagine if Stones or Cahill suddenly decided to play centre forward because the defending was too boring! :)

And if a Sunderland player had done it strong words would have been said. But the moment someone becomes England manager they loose their bottle

I don't think Barnsley are a better team of individuals than England. Technically and in terms of ability they don't compare. But following the sacking off of LJ we have something that England don't team spirit an ethos of playing and a tempo and verve that other teams cannot match. Therefore I would say that we would do better than England in international football against so called 'lesser' teams like Slovakia.

England play like a loose collective of individuals with no plan and little attacking shape or verve.

Technically we missed out on a game so Sam Morsy could play in a friendly for Egypt.

I heard that and I thought Sam will regret coming out with such a statement. It is hardly a ringing endorsement of his strength of character which was something that is needed to manage England and something I really thought Sam would bring with him. If he can't tell players like Rooney where to play then who can.

The Reds would have beaten England comfortably last night. :)

It might, if Armstrong, Morsy and Janko weren't all away on international duty.

Well put. A case in point is Wales. Take Ramsey and Bale out of their side and are they actually any better than Barnsley man for man? Someone very high up at BFC made the point last week that despite his wonderful goal against Belgium, there is a good reason why Robson-Kanu couldn't get into Reading's team - because his goalscoring record in the Championship is pretty crap. If you're not good enough for Reading, then you're probably not good enough for Barnsley either.
