Spot on the next guy after Val needed to be a strict disciplinarian. We ended up with a Geography teacher. New guy needs to be a ball breaker.
Nobody hated the winning Marlon. Some of the football was atrocious though. That doesn't excuse losing the high intensity, fitness and work rate like we seem to have done.
A few players weren't pulling their weight yesterday. Schopp acknowledges that. But why wasn't he bellowing at them to affect things while they were out there on the pitch? We've seen how important that is last season. The player I have in my head is obviously a talented player. He could do great things for Barnsley. But at the moment he isn't up to speed with the game. Gets caught in possession time and time again. Doesn't show the required energy. Thinks he has more time than he does. Elects not to play the first time flick on that contributed so much to our success last season. Schopp has the power to change all that as it is happening. Not doing so will only get the fans backs up and result in the players getting booed, which isn't useful for anybody.
The desire and passion shown by the players on the pitch perfectly matches the desire and passion shown from the manager sadly.
Because he doesn't appear to have anything about him at all. Seems like a robot coach churned off the production line with all the right badges and nothing else
Val maximsed our strengths and hid our weaknesses to such an extent we believed, and still do, that we have a squad ready to challenge. The reality is we don't. And What Schopp has failed to do is build on that. Val realised that would could not outplay teams, but we could out run then, out fight, press, and physically overpower teams. Without that physical edge we have to outplay teams but we lack the players for that. In fact we are not even close. It's a massive failure on Schopp's part to see what we are good at and what we are not good at. Especially when losing the one player who did have the skills in Mowatt. It's horrendous, shortsighted and abject failure of Schopp to fail to recognise what was good about last year and why we excelled. Last years team playing under Schopp would have failed too - even with Mowatt and Dyke and a fit Andersen.
We all know (or at least I think we do) that Andersen is poor when he has the ball at his feet, his biggest weakness for us has been when he's been making short passes. Last year (and to be fair half of the year before) val and struber recognised this about him and our defence in general and didnt play that style. It worries me that it's the style schopp plays and with Andersen to come back it will be a disaster unless he's willing to change his tactics completely
Completely agree. I fear for Anderson’s confidence playing out from the back with unhappy fans behind him. It could ruin the bloke after a brilliant season under Val.
