Most expensive streets in the UK where a house will set you back £35million | Metro News

Walked round The Boltons a few weekends ago and some of the streets around Holland Park. It's been a Christmas tradition to wander round and see some of the Christmas decorations on the huge houses. Kensington Gardens is still way and above anywhere else where you've people like Abramovich, Ecclestone and Mittal living in many of the former Embassy mansions.

I lived in Kingston for 20 years. Couldn't afford Richmond.

Kingston was ruined by the Bentalls / John Lewis complex. Back in the old days that was all warehouses and narrow lanes, old boozers leading down to wharves on the river. Like something out of a Dickens novel on a winters evening.

Nowt wrong with Richmond either. I live there.

There are worse places for sure (part of it as my constant annoyace you cant just get a drink at Steins!). But just not that big a fan. I'd rather be around Kew, Kingston or nip across to Hackney Wick and round Hampton Court.

Spent many a late evening taking in the serenity of the river while having a tipple on the balcony at the Boaters.

Thing is when you live here you avoid the more 'tourist' places - especially in summer. Richmond again lost a lot of its character in the 90s. The High St and hill used to have lots of independent shops and cafes back then. One cafe up Hill Rise had an interior carved from wood that looked like it was out of an Alpine village. It was run by a couple of Austrian sisters who served coffee on little glass cups. Now its like any other Hight St. Coffee shop after coffee shop. Does anyone need to drink that much coffee?

I only lived there a short time in the late 90s before i moved to Wapping and then Isle of Dogs. Thats the risk in most places, that independents would be pushed out for higher rents (happened in ED the last few years), will be interesting to see what high streets look like after Covid.

Could well believe it. When we were on Bishops Ave, all the owners were Sheiks and the like, developers were just starting to snap up properties and redevelop often into flats etc.
Silly, silly money even back then (around 2005).

I worked at Kenwood House, close by. Bishops has some right ugly houses. Mainly Arab & Russian oil money. Who would buy a house, flatten it & build another. It was a constant building site that road.. :)

George Michaels gaff went for a few bob too. I actually looked at renting a room on that row, while I was waiting for the right Wentworth house to come up. Odd situation, an old academic fella who would let rooms cheap. I think he just liked the company. Lovely house, like a scruffy antiques emporium stinking of cat piss, he had 8 or 9 moggies. :)
