Although on a different scale this all reminds me of the feeling coming out of the ground towards the end of the Prem season where we were listening in to the scores wondering how the likes of Everton and Spurs had got on, these being our rivals near the bottom. FF to this season and we’re getting disappointed that Cardiff and Reading and the like are winning; teams that might stop us going up! As the now departed Saint’s good mate used to say: “It’s a funny old game”.
I think the opposite! I think they might be the tough ones as well, but I'd much rather face them over two legs than risk it on a single match.
I'm just so pleased NOT to have an end of season like we've suffered recently. Scrapping for points, seemingly dead and buried, performing last day miracles and confounding the bookies (and Wigan fans). Desperately hoping those around us dropped points and we didn't and doing more daily computations than the Deep Blue supercomputer! My nerves couldn't take another one of those run-ins. So this season I'm happy to have avoided relegation early on, beaten the fowls in their own chicken run, appointed a manager who knows exactly what he wants-and gets it, and I can look forward to a possible play-off spot. If we don't get in the play-offs I won't be bothered, we've had a brilliant season both on the field and off it, we have a lot to look forward to, and my nerve pills are in the cupboard gathering dust
