I have a lot of love and respect for him too. A top man, inspiration to many people. If you get to see any of the documentaries he has made or interviews he does, quite engaging. I know the estate he grew up on well.

Yes, had a sh1tty upbringing, did something reprehensible, was rightly punished, changed his life. Great story.

Not dissing him out of hand. And maybe I didn't reflect that. (Apologies) Just think some of the comments are a bit ott. I agree he appears to have turned his life around and deserves credit for that. He has a soft spot for us. I get that. But I have a soft spot for a lot of clubs. (But I don't love em) It's nowt unusual.
His dad was a nasty piece of work. And his dad dying was one of his excuses (alongside depression). For his actions at the time. If you screw up at least fess up without citing anyone else to achieve sympathy.

Not sure anyone's going to stand up in court and say they did because they just like beating people up.

Drugs/alcohol is often the excuse as if they’re not personally to blame

I don't think that there is an excuse for any kind of violence, or even violent language, hatred, etc.

There are many things that cause it, be it religion, tribalism, sectarianism, racism, and loads of other -isms. The high profile people that turn their lives around like Troy are the only hope others will do the same.

    I'm sure you get this?

I do… problem seems to be that so many even convince themselves that one of the isms is to blame when they don’t know what they mean !
The Deeney story is good and as you say we only hope that many folk will follow suit

Those excuses are often also symptoms of underlying issues. There as to be a shot of redemption open to people . Let's not forget we have very recently and rightly celebrated our best hero of this millennium in Adam Hammill who also did bad things but confronted it and found redemption. I dont think Troy holds himself out as anything he isnt, he confronts it and shares his story for the benefit of others. We arent his target audience for that, its kids in the same position he was. He deserves respect and I think his love for us possibly stems from a default position of rooting for the underdog which 9 times out of 10 we usually are

Often is the case that they offer redemption. Even talking ****** like turned to god. Then re-offending when they get released. I believe Everybody deserves another chance. Btw.
Statistics say above 50% of those who get custodial sentences re-offend.
BTW did he say love for us or soft spot. I caught the back end of the interview. The overuse of the word love for me can be disingenuous in certain aspects.

As for Adam, yes he gave me great joy as a footballer. And I genuinely think he was remorseful.
I don't think he tried to blame anything other than drink and his stupidity. Lots of folk have been in that position. He was embarrassed and acknowledged his behaviour was reprehensible.

Also the clamour for him to get a role at the club bemuses me. I want the best available candidates. If he's one of them. Fine.
