He joined at the start of the 2010/2011 season for the u14's part time. Think he was still at Harrogate at this time At this time. Stones was going from u16's to Full time u18's football with Reserve Football.
Here you go. Apologies for the delay. Cypriot Wi-Fi. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...ttom-barnsley-mission-impossible-championship
That's amazing to read. The same article says he joined the U14's Then claims he coached a player through all the age groups. First of all how many players start at 14 with a club. Not pointing at you here because you really might not know but he was in the u14's part time. I think this age group trains on a night a few times a week then plays on a Sunday I believe. Stones had moved upto the u18's when he first joined and would be at oakwell daily playing matches on a Saturday and mid weeks during the day normally.
Isn't this all a bit moot What has his spending got to do with anything. He got us promoted from league one and had us at the top of the championship until all his best players were sold. He took us to Wembley twice and created memories for thousands upon thousands of families - which is what football is all about. He is a very well thought of coach, articulate, bright, speaks brilliantly in the media and is a great figurehead for the club. What's not to like? What he did in adversity in January when we had no CEO speaks volumes about the man. You probably have no idea of the hours he gave up and sacrificed. In fact it's a total disgrace to be even questioning him given the difficulties he has worked through and success he has given us, in my opinion, old bean.
Pop Babestation on Hemsy, Lolly Badcocks on at minute sometimes a bit of the beef curtain comes out if you're lucky.
As a percentage of income it's about 10 to 15 percent. Transfer fees are meaningless in analysing a teams performance. Statics show that in an average season 90 per cent of success is a result of the ability to pay the highest wages. In any individual season the average is about 78 percent. To evaluate Heckingbottom's performance you would need to know the wage bill and the wage bill of all other teams to see what position statistically we should finish in. I believe we pay the lowest wages in the division. Therefore statistically we should come bottom. Anything above that is due to clever recruitment, tactics, man management and coaching and would be seen as a success even if we got relegated as next to bottom. If you have any genuine interest in the subject read Soccernomics. https://www.curtisbrown.co.uk/client/stefan-szymanski/work/money-and-football
Happy to be corrected or clarified Hemsy, all part of debate and discussion. After his part time u-14 position, Hecky was under 18's coach, then u-21 coach, the latter during the season Stones went to Everton I believe, I'm sure his biography on the official club website says this about his time with the 18s and 21s. So I can only conclude that, lazy journalism or otherwise, he would have had some key input into Stones' development. The point being that he has had some impact on his career (as did Branson and Burton over a longer period), and also the income generated from both the initial transfer fee and the sell on. I certainly give him credit for it, and considering he managed Mawson for 6 months directly, some credit there too.
That worked for the first couple of games when the squad was fully fit but then he had lots of adversity to deal with. We lost Kevin Long who'd been a rock for us & Hecky then formed a partnership out of Mawson & Roberts that hasn't worked earlier in the season. He lost Watkins for pretty much the rest of the season but got the best out of Ashley Fletcher after a few average games at first. He lost Adam Hammill for 3 games to suspension. Many had wrote us off as a one man team reliant on Hammill but he led us to 3 victories whilst he was suspended making vital substitutions. He lost White for pretty much the rest of the season. Replaced him with a lad in George Williams who'd never played left back professionally & had been cast adrift by the last manager as not good enough & made to train with the kids & loaned out to non-league. Got him playing very well & turned him into a fans favourite. He then lost Bree til the end of the season & converted a central midfielder in Scowen to full back who did a solid job. Let's not pretend it was an easy job until the end of the season, it was anything but. No matter how much you or anyone else tries to diminish Hecky's achievements you can't.
Officially it's called something like senior development coach. They mix between the then 21's and u18's. Davaney was that before he took over the u18's manager role. I think the roles to help them bridge the gap between the now u23's and u18's. It's all part of the EPPP rules. They have to have so many coaches so the players get at least x amount of contact time to help them. I understand what you are saying. But the pressures on the first team coach. That's all my point was. The more you spend the more people expect. Squads coming together nicely imo. Not far off.
Can I just ask a simple question. If you know so much and are never wrong about anything, why aren't you managing / coaching somewhere? Obviously somewhere local to start with, but hey who knows, with your impeccable ability you ought to make it to the very top really quickly.
