I think one of the positives of the BBS is that it does allow the freedom to post off-topic but at times the board can become dominated by political posts. I don't mind politics, in fact I take a keen interest in the subject but at times this place does become too much.

I tend to agree - see above but at times there isn't too much else being posted. Like I said I don't mind politics but the rapid descent into name calling and petty squabbling drives me mad. It is only a small minority who do it but it's enough to derail a thread.

so was Yugoslavia and that turned out well ! checoslavakia (?) split, and I cant be bothered with African countries that have reformed/split/reformed. I believe if we as a nation had 100% control over a fair immigration system and 100% control over the law of the land ( non of this european court crap) staying in the eu wouldn't be as big of an issue but what do I know I left school at 15 and didn't get a private education or uni

Mario, your location, "on the right wing", is that a political statement or a football one?

A nice aspiration , but it has to be voluntary , as someone pointed out Italy was unified relatively recently , as was Germany , but they were states with the bond of language . Forced unification has not necessarily been successful ,Yugoslavia being a prime example that split in a serious of vicious wars , but also Czechoslovakia who fortunately parted company amicably . Others though do not cohabit so well , particularly the problems Spain has with both Basques and Catalans....even Belgium , the very seat of the EU is a manufactured country split sometimes divisiveIy between Walloons and Flemings .

To avoid the possibility of unintendedly prejudicing any of my future posts i think I need to keep a professional silence and leave my location as the double entendre I intended.

I think a lot of people on the remain side only looked at the present when they voted, as in the EU isn't perfect but it's alright, they completely ignore the fact a lot of cracks are being papered over, but eventually that won't stop the thing falling down - huge levels of unemployment in Southern Europe etc, all a direct result of their economies not being compatible with a single currency.

That article has it right - the last financial crisis came out of nowhere when everyone seemed to be doing quite well, when we inevitably get another one it could be a complete disaster that is almost impossible to recover from. There comes a point where peoples' lives get so sh*t that they overthrow the government, it happened in a number of EU countries only about 25 years ago so don't think it can't happen again.

I can imagine there being lessons in schools in maybe 30 years time that focus on 'why the EU collapsed economically', it just hasn't been thought out right. Spain, for example, had a currency which was a lot less valuable to Sterling etc but it worked for them, switching to what is basically the Deutchmark overnight was never going to work in the long term.

Going purely from memory , I seem to think the UK passed all the tests demanded by the EU , for Euro currency membership...in fact I think most countries who joined , actually failed the tests but the project continued in breach of the rules . The tests we failed were Gordon Brown's own tests designed to keep us out .

I just think you're a lonely, bitter old man leading to the ridiculous amounts of bile you spew to feel vaguely important. Yes so am I. Si thi.

Much more to do with the downfall of a capitalist system that has ceased to work for the majority of the people. Too much of the worlds wealth is locked up in the bank accounts of multi billionaires and is not serving anyone. Link that to the discredited democratic system that openly allows liars to prosper and therir supporters to crow about it and you have a recipe for revolution. Won't happen here though, we've been under the yolk for so long we don't even know it's there.
It may in France and Germany though, they have a different history to ours.

'Bile' ?? Unless your definition is anything you disagree with otherwise give examples. Yep- I am like a dog with a bone on certain subjects but tend to avoid insults and try to provoke reasonable debate.

As to 'bitter' No idea how you come to that conclusion. Far from it. I enjoy my life having worked hard all my life and now enjoying my retirement.

Please provide examples of both bile and bitterness!!

Your wasting your time Teks , you cannot hope to compete or produce reasonable debate with these people they are far more educated and will never consider your views cos they're not theirs. Bigots really , I think your right about the certain few on here and there is a lot more who do. I think Mr C for example has lost the plot regarding the insults he's thrown at you , just for having a different view, shameful really ,
