My pleasure to reminisce about your magnificent father. I remember another game in which, I believe, he scored a couple - an amazing friendly against Accra Hearts Of Oak, the champions of Ghana, whom we beat 10-2 at Oakwell! If my memory serves me well, Norman Dean scored 5 for us in that much. The Ghana lads were very talented, but awfully naive.
25 less than 3000. Jock Steele stepped down as manager the following season. Those were grim days for Barnsley FC, a malaise that lasted a number of seasons.
A true legend to all of us and a wonderful dad to you from your own comments. Condolences to all the family. I have added some memories in the thread farther down. Wonderful memories.
Beautiful. I’m sure our youngsters know where they play their football. Where ever their careers might take them. The best tribute to Eric, would be for this lovely team of young lads to get themselves promoted to the premier league. We’ve rose from the ashes many times. I’m so delighted I support the most interesting, loveliest football club in the world.
You Dad is one of the main reasons I love this club of ours and have done since the 1960's. I'll never forget him. Nor will I ever forget the efforts you made in order to raise money for Laura's charity. The Winstanley family is truly special and are loved & respected.
Post my previous comments. I can only echo all the tributes. To a great man. That Twitter video. Set the tears off again. I love this Football club and the way our amazing fans. Have come together in tribute.
@Terry Nutkins , I am so sorry to hear your news. Whilst I never met your father or saw him play, he was always someone I always thought of as being a true Barnsley legend through his youth team coaching right up the 1st XI. I still believe that a massive part of our promotion to the premier league was down to his input in the youth set up years before and the players that he brought through and is something that we as a club have not been able to replicate en masse since. My best wishes to you and all your family.
Wow mine too, true respect from the club for a top man. Ive not seen that done before like that. Very special.
