Depends if they keep the current manager happy. & don’t use our relatively successful form as an excuse to tighten the purse strings further..?
This is a good thread, what I would add is to repeat what I said in the summer, that they should do the honourable thing and finish purchasing the club at the price they agreed. Until then I can't support the current owners, we seem to be in limbo, the ownership of the land isn't a priority for me.
Good points well made Archey. Their naivety is undeniable but it's been replaced with a realisation that things had to change re player acquisition. The examples you use of MH, DS and CB are illustrations of where they recognised the need to tweak the approach. People forget that it was Patrick's original objective to buy young, develop, sell and progress. That was the approach which needed tweaking. Seems to me that they listened, albeit a bit too late, but they listened and sanctioned the above purchases. Like you and many others, I'm looking to January to see the continued progression you've defined above. I think some comfort can be taken in the fact that Alex and Cauley stayed in August when, again, some on here, repeatedly predicted / insisted that they were both going to be sold. Of course, all of the above could well be wrong. Val might get poached. Alex and Cauley might leave at knock down prices. Calum Styles and Calum Brittain could be sold to Sheff U in a double transfer deal and Victor might go on a season long loan to Leeds with a view to buy. I'd prefer to think not but these days owt could happen. If we are faced with a nuclear scenario come January, we need to "go again" as all footballers seem to say these days!!
In a hypothetical scenario, if it turned out something had gone on to validate them not paying the full amount would you then support them?
The average age last night was 25.2. When we beat QPR 5-3 this time last year the average age was 23.4. The average age for last season as a whole was 23. Of the 10 youngest starting elevens this season, 8 of them were ours.
I agree entirely. Honestly, I can see one of Mowatt or Woodrow leaving (not both though). If we can move a couple of fringe players on too, such as Miller, Bahre, Ritzmaier and Green, we'll have the room to bring in the 3 or so players we need to bolster the squad and move forward further. I'm hoping the board have learned their lessons and can see where we need to improve, and purchase players to fill those positions, rather than a few players, not necessarily in the right positions, purely because we rate them and they're available.
Hi Ik311, yes possibly but it is difficult to understand what that might be. I was surprised when this news broke in the summer, that they hadn't purchased the club outright, as the fee was low for a football club. Over the years we have heard rumours of how much it would cost to the club to purchase the stadium and land entirely. It is a substantial amount, which again surprised me that the 80% ownership were in dispute with the land owners. Unless, the cost of the land has been over estimated and it's affordable to them. The owners could be heroes here, they have a plan which appears to be working, just tidy up the loose threads. On a separate note, I do appreciate the uncertainty over a Brexit trade deal and immigration rules, may force them to leave the UK. Which would be sad,as I think they could make it work in the new environment.
Yeah, I wouldn’t have a clue what a justifiable reason might be either and again the sums involved don’t sound huge, but then maybe that’s why I’m not where they are.
Not sure they planned Covid which is the thing that kept us up. The lack of crowds has also helped our young players develop. January will as always be a test of resolve. The ground issue and trying to be avoid their financial commitments also needs resolving quickly. Still a fair 5 out of 10 from me so far for their ownership
