In what way does Scotland 's national anthem work for them? Self imploding plastic parliament, heavily subsidised by the English many hate and a football team that scrape through to the occasional finals to get battered and go home at the first opportunity
In what way does it work for them? The folk song fires them up before a game starts, regardless of whether they are good enough to win the game. Football, Cricket, Rugby ....... any sport. Be it Ireland, Scotland or Wales (and others). I don't give a flying f.ook about non sporting aspects or 'parliament' ......... that is not what the thread is about. As for the English sporting 'anthem' ......... GSTK is fine for ceremony and state occasions, but please, let's get something more inspiring for sporting events that gets a bit of fire in their bellies.
Reckon most players would gladly bin the anthems and get on with game. Used to love cameras panning on Paul Scholes' pi$$ed off mush while the dirge was playing.... .
I'm the same - I mute all national anthems in the interests of fairness since I can't stand ours (as an anti-monarchy atheist it doesn't exactly speak to me).
Flower of Scotland pmsl.. one of the worst and sounds horrid when everyone in the stand is so out of tune. God Save The King any day over that and most others around the world. So funny how people get real triggered by our anthem, they obviously have no real issues in life. USA anthem is a good un as well.
Jerusalem was written as a poem by William Blake, an anti establishment anarchist, it was then put to music around a 100 years later. The questions posed in his written work were all asked ironically, the answers to them all being "no". "and did those feet in ancient times walk upon England's pastures green?".....No, he was a carpenter in Palestine, allegedly. Etc.... It's a poem of hope, despite the fact that we have no real reason to hope. Probably quite fitting for Southgates "team".
I'd go for Rock N Roll by Oasis. "I live my life in the city, there's no easy way out. The day's moving just too fast for me" Quite.
