    my former neighbour was involved in getting the grave inscription done.

    This was about 10 years ago.

    Initially the headstone only named Archie's widow Annie - no mention of Archie.
    Permission had to be got from the Taylor family for Archie's name to be inscribed and the reference to the F A Cup.

    Dave Wood liaised with BFC and they funded the cost of the inscription.

    One of the most satisfying things I've been involved in was to provide this permanent reminder to the resting place of our Cup Winning captain. The stonemason in Perth quoted us a special price because in his words "It was Barnsley" and Don Rowing pushed the payment through with no fuss. Archie had organised the original stone for his wife but died leaving no descendants nor instructions for his own epitaph..... Job done

    Basing my entire knowledge on my own mental relatives on the characters in Trainspotting, I can safely conclude that the Scots are far bigger scoundrels that we have ever been.
