Yeah and we are far better off than many of the EU countries that are really struggling at the moment either with Covid 19 like Italy, Spain, France and Germany or the immigration issue with Turkey/Greece.
I think it's ironic that Boris is constantly saying that he's following guidance from the experts.....
It's right alright - and then we have Govt policy given to the Downing St photocopier boy (not my words I nicked 'em off twitter) Peston so there is no journo scrutiny
The *real* Brexiteer irony is that the EU are proposing to stop all non-essential travel into the EU for 30 days. As we are still in transition, this would effectively close the UK to travel from outside the EU *and we have no say in this*.
What do you suggest he does? If he had shut the schools down last week like alot of lefties on here think he should some even think put the country into lockdown it would have a massive impact on the economy. He has made the right choice to keep kids kn school and people at work as long as possible.
Do you really believe that when we get to the end of this you’ll be able to count the difference a week made to the total damage to the economy? it gave his hedge fund mates a bit of breathing space that’s all.
So he should of withdrawn all kids from schools and nurserys leaving parents unable to work.... that would have been great. I'm not his greatest fan but some just want any excuse to criticise I think he has made the right decision so far.
You can ‘think’ he’s made the right decision, whether or not he’s right will be visible in the data this time next year. Till then, what any of us think is irrelevant. But underlying that: billions will be wiped off the economy, thousands of jobs will be lost and possibly millions will die. If you really think a couple of weeks school will look important at the end of this, you haven’t grasped what’s happening here.
Yeah it will make no difference what so ever your right let's all panic buy stock up on **** roll and tinned soup everyone pack I'm going work and let's all stay at home... Fact is no matter what happens the world economy will take a massive hit, business will go bust small and large, people will die. But it's always better to keep schools open as long as possible. I dont envy boris job one bit but alot of it just seems like political point scoring.
I’m not advocating panicking or stocking up on bogroll. I’m taking the wider view that this is going to be utterly ***** and many of us will die. So I’m keeping clean, working from home, and being sensible. I never suggested closing schools, it’s you that’s obsessed by that (**** knows why) from my point of view it’s not that big a deal.
There is something called unintentional consequences. I would pose a hypothetical question. Germany is the largest manufacturer of ventilators used in the treatment of Covid-19 and a major manufacturer of testing kits. Given that we are no longer in the EU are Germany likely to supply us with these vital bits of kit any more than if we were still a member state.?
Well our leaders have announced we will make our own. As someone with a little knowledge of making medical equipment I can’t begin to tell you how unrealistic that is. If they really believe that’s possible we are even more screwed than I thought if they know and are just lying....
You started by saying do you really think a week keeping the schools open will make a difference to the economy at the end on this, well yes I do it's another week already struggling parents cant get into work or have to arrange child care, it's a week of children not been taught, it's a week that will cripple some working families. So yeah I do think it will make a difference, and you come across as a bell end.
I was responding to your rant about schools. And I posited a question. what is ******* up the country is selfish arseholes, all over Europe communities are working together so people can work and look after their kids, they’re sharing the load. they’re thankful that their governments are guaranteeing incomes and promising to support businesses. just look at the attitudes in the UK, people clearing out supermarkets of baby food and advertising it at horrific prices. Our prime minister shrugs his shoulders and calmly tells us we’re going to lose loved ones... grumpy old blokes complaining they’re being asked to stay home, treating it like a prison sentence rather than a measure to save their lives. And yet somehow, whilst all that’s happening, you’re treating me like a psycho because I don’t think closing a school is a big issue. OK
The short answer to that will be yes. I don’t believe any reasonable country would refuse to supply to a country in need based on Politics. Will they sell it at the same rate no, but if they can they will provide.
The EU announced yesterday that they are pushing through plans to manufacture over 10,000 respirators and the UK would still qualify for some of those. The same with any vaccine.
There are selfish people in every country and yes some have shown they are selfish in the last week, but I've also seen alot of people and business offering to helping the elderly and vulnerable. Which countrys are guaranteeing incomes I genuinely havent seen that, Spain,Italy and france are all in lockdown. They have had it much worse than us italy had near 2k deaths last time I looked we have 50 odd. All I was saying was closing the schools a week early will make a lot of difference to peoples lives.
