It would be a big no from me mate. He's just not mobile enough at all, especially for long periods of the game. Old fashioned number 10 would be great for him. Runners behind, side & front of him to graft, and he can do some magic when he's actually on the ball, because he's technically excellent, especially at this level. So glad he's not playing defensive midfield for us anymore - what a player he is when used right.
I’ve thought same about trying Russell upfront. He’s a great finisher and it seems a shame that we can’t get him into our starting eleven.
Mcgoldrick ran half the pitch to recover a ball he lost, he put a fantastic tackle in, won us the ball back, and we went on the attack. I just can't see Russell doing that mate, and I think that's what Conor is demanding
McGoldrick is an incredible footballer. Tracks back, tackles, has an amazing range of passing. He could just as easily play in central midfield as up front.
Commented on another thread that Watson was solid and held his position well. As said he's a 7/10 player game in game out and a massive bonus for us. Interested to see how it gels with Robbo back.
I get what you are saying, and I agree about his suitability for the number 10 role. I just think it's such a shame that a player of Russell's class and attacking prowess is languishing on the bench in League One, and your comments suggest strongly that you agree with me.
I think it speaks volumes that mcgoldrick went to play for notts county for 2 years. he looks like a kid playing in the park , loving every minute of being there. the signing is looking every bit a complete masterstroke.
