He's young, brave and full of spunk. He'll no doubt get a talking to. It's nice to have players in tune with the cause. It's frustrating but if we're going to persist with a young side it's par for the course.
I said at half time that Yoganathan should come off because he’s a risk. I love the bite he has but it’s a risk when on a yellow in a feisty game. That said, the heart we showed to play that long with 10 men is great to see. We were definitely deserving of a point at least. Luca my man of match. Thank god he didn’t end up at Wycombe a few weeks ago. Huge credit to Earl and Shepherd too. Loads of pressure on them at the end but they held strong.
You can argue our fault for today’s But to criticise us for the Plymouth one is bizarre. Different ref but almost identical accidental handball today and ref just gave a free kick. And Sheps first booking was outrageous
Just got back from match n going through MDT, your last message was to sub him….lollol….have you been btw?
Not criticising Plymouth, but I think some of our players are a little naive. The referees are wildly inconsistent. We need to be in a position where we aren't giving them the opportunity to make silly decisions. Hopefully an early learning curve for all involved. I think we'd have beaten them had we kept 11 players on the pitch but can't argue with 7/9 to start the season.
Only seen Yogi's second yellow from head on in the East Stand. Didn't even look a foul from where we were, but it might have been more sinister from another angle. He's a bit of a loose cannon, which you can get away with if you are an automatic choice for a starting line up. But Kelly is on a par with Yogi at the very least. If Conor can't trust Yogi he'll get dropped. We lost 2 points today 'cos he lost self control for his first yellow. btw DKD and McGoldrick were both well sub par. We can pass it about well and look like a team.
Imho....An absolutely emmence point that. First half thought we were the better footballing side although it was end to end. Conor has definitely shaped an identity in this group of players and I like it!....we have structure, a renewed enthusiasm and an identity. I think I stated from the first game everyone seems to know their jobs and I'm impressed with our pressing and discipline. There's a long season ahead of course and there will be lots of up and downs but I REALLY like what I'm seeing so far with this limited squad. Our Achilles heel is obviously our defense but we were excellent against a very good team today because everyone contributed...best player today?....I'm going to say Vickers then maybe Earl (I know!) but very proud...well done reds.
Good performance & I’m happy to take the point given how long we played with 10 men for. I’ve not read through comments yet but I hope there’s no nonsense pretending we were hard done to by the ref. Two clear bookings. Yoganathan is a very useful player but his biggest asset is his off the ball work. Due to his height & mobility he can win tackles & duels that the rest of our side can’t. The problem is that if he gets a booking, even if it’s in the first half you might as well take him straight off because we have far better players on the ball & a Yoganathan that can’t put a tackle in is nowhere near as good as Russell or Kelly. It’s a shame as he was playing well. Brilliant goal from McGoldrick. That is not the type of goal I expected him to score for us. I felt for him having to go off but there was no alternative. Very impressed with Vickers work rate today. For a kid on loan his hearts definitely in it. A few minutes after the sending off he sprinted all way back to our 6 yard box to make an interception that prevented an almost certain goal. Shepherd had two shaky moments in possession that could have led to Bolton goals but he did well defensively as did Earl who was probably my man of the match. Things feel pretty positive around our club right now. I just hope we can keep this team together & add a striker to compete / rotate with McGoldrick. If we do then we can have a really good season.
That's what I mean, a little bit of naivety all round, from the players to the coaching team who arguably should have removed him at HT. Hopefully we learn fast.
Yea...I think Yogi's time is to come. Next game either Russell or Kelly will be fine in that position.
May I ask what made the second one a clear booking? What do you believe occured that was a clear booking under the laws of the game?
The biggest transfer news the club can do, is retain DKD, Philips & Connell this window. A couple of loans or freebies to strengthen, and I think the board and DoF would deserve all the credit, along with CH. I know we need the money, but I feel that unless the right money is offered, then they may stay. And tbf that will cost the board a few million as they’ll have to dig deep again. I’d hazard a guess that none of the players want to leave, and that actually they’re enjoying their football currently and it’s putting us 2nd, which helps us too. Fingers crossed come 1st September - we can all dream. But I wonder if the board are willing to have one last punt this season, will they chase the dream too?
Not been today (on holiday) but looking at the first yellow could dkd have done more? Stood right there could have just held him back, calmed him down etc. Seems a great point on reflection though. 3 out of 3 we would have lost last season. You redzzzzz.....
