Me too - I was convinced they were going to sack him even before that game at Altrincham. He is responsible for my wife not going to the footy anymore - she couldn't hack it after seeing abysmal game after abysmal game. Can handle the defeats mostly (but not 9 on the bounce) but the football was just atrocious......
I think that’s a bit harsh. They have both got a small group of Britain First loyalist rubbish among their support but I know a lot of Sunderland fans. They are pretty much like the Barnsley ones - just rather a lot more of them! They ere hurting at the moment and just showing that hurt. The thing is, I think we all know in our heart of hearts that both Sunderland and Wigan are more likely to grace the premiership before we do. Christ, Bolton are more likely than us!
We might have to disagree on that then as either of us can’t ‘prove’ anything either way. I would point out that as recently as 1988 Bolton were in Division 4, and have reached the premiership 3 times since then. They are a Club that have spent most of their history in the top flight and will be striving for it again. You’ll be aware that our own history of top flight football isn’t quite so illustrious though I would accept that’s mainly down to the FA and Arsenal. So, yes, I think they are very likely to get there before us.
No issue with Sunderland or Wigan fans, enjoyed talking to both before and after games. Northerners, miners football fans plenty in common.
Agreed. I've got a good mate who is a Sunderland fan, and he's one of the soundest bloke I've ever met. For his sake I hope Sunderland get out of the mire soon.
Its the " big club" mentality that does my head in with some Sunderland fans. You're in keague 1 for the same reason as everyone else, there's no divine right to be in the Premier league.
Big club is surely determined by how many you'd get through the turnstiles? Sunderland would probably be Premier League if you counted up how many would turn up on a Saturday. If in the Premier League. Bet they'd be in the top 20. Or 30. There's nowt else going on up where they are.
Our ground was filled and could have held more if there'd been room when we were in the Premier league. Granted, Sunderland did retain big crowds comparatively even in league 1. They are deluded though!
