1 goal more than Daniel Sturridge over last 5 years (admittedly DS has been suspended). If we were signing DS or someone of his ilk would the response be the same?
No but with good service you never know. Our attacking ethos is pretty basic, win ball, flick ons, lay off for midfielders to put ball through for clever runs at pace. Our crosses back end of the season lacked quality, we need to raise the standard again and i think any strong tall striker will flourish.
The sort of striker you mention is a needle in a haystack. I suppose it's finding the right combination of strikers to get the best out of each other. Morris comes close to ticking all the right boxes, and maybe, with the introduction of the right man alongside him, he can be the one to lead the line. As you say, a lot of credit has to go to our scouts/recruitment strategy.
Chuff me. You sure that's his name...Stipe Virica .sounds more like a sexually transmitted disease that you can pick up on wellington street on a random Friday night to me
Hopefully he'll get us a few free kicks. We've just had a beast up front who got no protection from refs whatsoever.
If you mean me I'm assuming nothing, haven't got a clue how things will be next season. What's your expert opinion?
Watford just announced signing of Ashley Fletcher which could possibly pave the way for this to happen.
Very decent article on him here. Sounds like he had huge potential but then lost his way a bit. A loan would be a gamble worth taking for us, but with the risk that if he does well then Watford would be likely to sell him to the highest bidder in January (which might not be us), bearing in mind that he's out of contract next summer and they'll probably want to recoup something. https://lastwordonsports.com/football/2021/04/19/what-future-watford-striker-stipe-perica/amp/
I think the Dike loan showed us that even having a guaranteed fee doesn’t particularly work for us. If the player starts to play really well and other clubs start to show an interest, we will just be quoted wages and terms we won’t/can’t afford to pay. The striker and his agent can then negotiate with who ever they choose after we have showcased his talents for a year or so.
Do we really need another striker? Whoever we get in won't be any better than Morris and Woodrow, Chaplin got into double figures when we weren't playing so direct, so worth a shot this season. Frieser may kick on a bit now he's adjusted to the league and we've signed Cole. Surely midfield and/or left wing back would be more of a priority?
Wouldn’t imagine Watford would want a loan deal with only 12 months left. If he plays well, come January more likely a club will wait until summer to get him on a freebie
