Brilliant post. I don’t particularly like the current owners but January 17 hurt a lot more than anything that’s happening here presently.

In my opinion that was a far better chance of promotion than last season. The teams in the play offs were horrendous that year.

Huddersfield got up with a negative goal difference & I think they drew all their play off games. I remember thinking how confident I’d be of the team we had earlier in the season against any of the sides in the play offs.

It hurt more because we didn’t need the money either. We’d made a fortune on Mawson & the Stones sell on. I bet what we got for Hourihane, Winnall & Bree wasn’t even 25% of what we’d already made that season.

I concur. This thread apart. I think it's great that fans have pulled together tonight. In the main they have put their differences aside regarding the owners since the news broke earlier about what the CEO said.

Even if the fabric of Barnsley F.C changes beyond recognition I've made some good friends on this message board.

Deep down we all want the same. That passion shines through in spades.

Are you sure you can't spot the board defenders? maybe the mirror is the place to start as you seem to jump on every post I make criticising them. The CEO their spokesman said it in several media interviews today.

    You ok hun?

You know when someone calls you a troll when you are trolling it just reiterates the fact you’re a troll and adds to the trolling when you can’t complete a sentence without mentioning it.

Asking you one question isn't defending the board, especially when you can see plenty of posts of mine that criticise a number of things at the minute. I just don't think the CEO actually said what you're implying, that's all.

As mentioned, be good to support your posts with examples. Can't be hard if you felt compelled to start a whole thread about these people and calling them out.

Are you absolutely sure it's only one question.
Anyway direct quote from Doug at the chronicles tweet about the CEOs interview
"Barnsley had one of the five best seasons in their history - but there was not one offer for any player. If you look at developing and marketing the players, the value was zero." So in other words they think it was a failure. By the way the CEO is actually lying because they sold Chaplin in the summer so they did receive at least one offer

All about interpretation isn't it? It's a stupid thing to even be discussing and I don't get mentioning it, but they're not saying the success wasn't wanted. They're purely talking about that style of football and saying that despite all that success nobody thought enough of the players to make serious bids. The argument there is that Covid put paid to any bids regardless, so that's a terrible pre-season to be looking at, but as a club that needs to sell a player a season for decent money to keep re-investing they're not saying they don't want success. When Conway moaned about the £500k loss on the Playoffs it was a pretty fair shout at government ineptness and the way prize money is filtered out. At least I took it as that.

It's been a car crash of comms the last ten days but I honestly don't put this one in the top five. Example of how slow the Championship transfer window was is below, which makes the comments even stranger - I think nearly 20% of that figure was spent by Boro on one player and another 30% of it spent by Fulham.

An apologist puts forward an argument in defence of something or someone unpopular or controversial. It's not one of the words, like so many are in the English language, with a myriad of different meanings, it has a clear definition.

I believe the statement regarding the value of our squad after a successful season is highly controversial. Judging by the reaction on this forum I would say this is a view shared by many and that the club's statement is hugely unpopular. Would you agree?

I would also say your post above is an argument that is clearly in defence of it. Have I misread it?

I'm struggling, therefore, to see this as anything other than the perfect example of what you previously asked the OP to provide.

Okay. My take on the board...
I've never understood why, if they're as rich as supposed, they're here. Potential profits have to be minimal unless we reach the Prem.
I fully support the "plan" started by the Crynes and continued by the current board. The only way to survive at this level is to develop players of increasing value and improve our standing along with them.
I don't see where they've taken any substantial monies out of the club.
They have, however, failed to pay the previous owners.
Lied shamelessly about the Belgians being unfit before admitting they didn't have visas.
Lied or muddied the waters on other issuse.
Closed the West Stand without forewarning or adequate compensation. The ground is starting to look like an embarrassment.
    Alienated the fan base.
Allowed a new CEO to come out and make some ridiculous statements.
Failed to act in the case of a manager who has no clue how to stop a slide to relegation.
In short I never trusted them but was willing to accept how they said they wanted to run the club. That trust has now well and truly gone and they have a huge hill to climb to regain mine and virtually everyone else's.

I fail to see why you think the teams in the play offs were horrendous that year fulham went out to Reading in the other semi. They had players like Ryan sessiongon, Scott Parker, Chris Martin in there team. That season fulham comfortably beat us twice home and away and that was before we sold all our players. This fairy tale that if we had gambled and kept conor and winnall we would have been promoted is abit laughable really.

No, what you've done is criticise those people who you refer to as the 'boards apologists.' Reading this and other similar threads I can't see any post which could be classed as being from a 'board apologist.'

So what you've done is a bit odd - you criticise a non-existent group . Of course you wont fall out with this group because they don't exist!

But what if someone had posted a message supporting the board - do they not have the right to do that or would you censor them?

Haven't really sold anyone apart from the manager you say?

Brad potts in the middle of a promotion campaign? Lucky Jacob brown came good

Our two center backs after promotion one who is now a premiership player for 2.5 million

Our top scorer a week before the window shut

    Jacob brown

    Struber

And they've given us one of if not the worst manager I've seen at oakwell in 20 years
