Which most scholars in the know, say is out of date anyway... Money been thrown down a bottomless pit
Interesting to see estimated Scottish GDP is likely to rank it around 21st of European countries (all European countries, not just EU ones).
If there are any posters thinking of relocating to Scotland there are two houses available in my street. One to buy and one to rent. Advantages include free prescriptions if you are ill, free bus travel if you are over 60, free further education if you decide to go to uni, free dental examinations, free personal care should you be elderly and in need of a bit of dignity. And most importantly pubs which sell Tennants lager and a decent football team to watch who are top of the league and going places. If interested I'd be happy to put a word in for you.
If i'm buying it.... I have to drink it... surely a Scot would understand a yorkshiremans sentiment in such matters! ;-)
I agree that the vast majority of Scottish people are open and friendly. There is an element that is racist and blatantly anti-English, but they are a very small minority. However, there does seem to be a chip on the shoulder of our Celtic neighbours when it comes to the English. The ABE feeling in Sport is a good example of it. I have friends in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, and most of them will admit to this.
Its probably to a lesser degree in the North, but I've been in numerous places in the South, or know of people down here who have a fervent loathing of the Scots. I've no idea why, but from suggesting that Scots shouldn't be allowed to sit as an MP in the commons, to keeping them north of the border... even to the point I was once asked if I was Scottish because of my surname being somewhat Celtic, and then when I said not, the reply being, thank god for that, I thought I was going to have to bar you! That was in Circencester…. just so people can avoid the place!
It was in a restaurant so he saw my card as I paid. I thought he was joking til I saw how worried his expression was. Ah well, its always a helpful reminder that not all places in England are on the same calendar as London, and its not 2019 for all.
The reason I don't like the SNP and Nicola Sturgeon in particular is she's just a conscientious objector. I don't think she stands for anything other than herself and shoulder padded Chanel suits. Sounds good.
My Grandad was from Kilsyth and i've always wanted to visit it. I might have to before Sturgeon rebuilds the wall.
There's one good thing about Nicola, she's smartened herself reyt up to the verge of being quite tidy. I'm not sure about the 'Stig' crash helmet hair do tho', that bad boy never moves even in high winds.
thanks Ian - I admire Sturgeon and fully support the drive for Independence. If a vote is taken after the UK has left the EU then the challenge for Sturgeon is to convince the electorate that Scotland will be admitted to the EU if the people of Scotland vote Leave.
Sorry to disagree here... I have extensively toured Scotland, I love the place and the majority of the people are warm and welcoming. There is a growing minority in Scotland hating the English, fuelled by the Krankie SNP woman. She is only focused on splitting from England. A recent visit to Edinborough was soured for me. I was walking up the Main Street with my 10 year old daughter. I had been pointing out the sights, and she was asking questions about the buildings. She asked about the cone on the head of the statue. At this point a group of Scottish lads, who had been following us shouted at my daughter “fk of back to England yer wee slag”. I turned around and said, no need for that lads. The told me to **** off back too and that I wasn’t welcome. I went into the next shop and left them on their way. I have also had similar situations in Glasgow, where I’ve had locals telling me to do one after merely hearing my Barnsley accent...
Hmm. I'm really sorry to hear of this and offer my full apologies for the actions of idiots. But then again you started your criticism of Scots by slagging our First Minister as that Krankie SNP woman. Also you can't even spell Edinburgh correctly. There is absolutely no place for what happened but your case fell apart by your disrespectful comments. Come to Dundee mate. I'm sure you will love it and you will be safe.
I’ve been, it’s brilliant. I know there are idiots in every area of Britain or even the world. Which is why I said the majority of Scots are absolutely sound. My spelling of Edinburgh, probably stems from me writing Middlesbrough many different ways last night (all of which appear to work!)... I do not like Nicola Sturgeon, but I agree I shouldn’t have called her that, so I apologise. I think Ms Sturgeon is hell bent on trying to get a separation from the UK. That is her entire focus. If I’m ever about in Dundee I’ll drop you a line, and we can go for a dram or two and discuss politics and football.
