The guy has done pretty well with the hand he was dealt. Maintained his dignity too. I wish Daniel had stayed, but that boat has sailed. Mindyou, I think Struber will be back in the Alps in a few short days for good and will walk. This season's failure is not his, but was hatched last summer. The board's incompetence was breathtaking. They thought they could buy and sell like a second hand car dealer and still be competitive. Yet again we have tried to complete at the highest level with a weaker team than actually got us promoted.
The problem with comparing the league positions/PPG is that all the other teams around us when he joined have picked up points too, which makes it harder as he cant control what others do. Suppose thats the joys of stats.
Surely a manager worth his salt would realise we badly needed a goal scorer and go out and get one or two. The lack of any has come back to bite us in the bum.
Have to say thats not a great statement, you would hope he would be "I believe in these guys. I'm going nowhere, unfinished business" etc It does rather sound like hes not overly committed to the cause.
The wording of the interview is concerning as it suggests he may choose to walk if we go down. He's still under contract, AFAIK, and I doubt there's any desire to get rid of him from the owners, so it's very unusual to see someone talking about deciding on their future like this when there's no obvious pressure on his position. Perhaps COVID has had an impact on him, with his domestic situation. Perhaps he just doesn't fancy managing in the 3rd tier. If he does walk, it'll reflect badly on the owners. It was heavily odds on that we'd go down at the time he was appointed, so surely you look to ensure you have a coach who will stick around for the following season, especially when they took so long to appoint him in the first place. Time will tell, but the fact he's even aired this publicly at this stage is odd.
It would be interesting to see how many goals Chaplin and Woodrow had scored by January Ian ? My crap memory seems to think it was defence that was the problem around that time? I agree that we lacked a plan B striker in January though.
Think he’s done ok some fairly bizarre team selections and insistence on playing / buying Ritzmaier, who is appalling causes serious concern statistically his record stacks up in this league ambivalent to him staying or going but marginal preference is to stay for the sake of continuity
Hoping leaving Ritzy out shows he's learning. Like Stendel, he's new to Engliah football and he needs time to gain experience too. Unless he wants to get in first in case the owners do want to scapegoat him and sack him?
We've done a Cambell-ryce on him though, no way should he be picking the ball up from our centre backs.
I’m just as concerned about Rose and Murray tbh. Rose has got the defence pretty much turned round nearly. Murray is well thought of in football circles and also the players themselves. It’s not always about the head coach, but those around him.
On tonight’s performance a Kane Hemings might have got two. Leeds, premier league, your having a laugh, were as poor as we were. There for the taking. But you have to put the ball in the net to do so.
They had 15m players in their squad compared to players that have mostly never played in the uk. Again being overly negative.
Got to go for me. Daniel Stendel begged for experience but wasn't allowed it. Struber came in and the first thing he did was sign his vastly experienced mate in defence. And still he didn't manage to improve our league position one bit. He's been lucky that players like Dougall came back from injury, odour had had long enough in the under 23s to reach the first team, he's been allowed to sign players and what has he done? Signed his mates and then played them all pretty much every game regardless of how they performed. He plays players out of position. He pulls players off after 20 minutes only to play them again the week after and does the same again. He's seemingly unable to learn from his mistakes. He's too inept to realise that our upturn in from came from paying odour. He dropped him and it went through the floor. He now insists on playing quite literally anyone so that he can avoid playing odour. Ben williams, Jordan Williams, Ritzmaier etc. He dropped Collins for one mistake but persisted with radlinger who made mistake after mistake. He was too stubborn to stop playing it out from the back which has cost us so many points. Points that mean the difference between bottom of the table and safety He plays dull negative tactics. Tippy happy at the back and your star striker on the halfway line. And to top it all off he's got absolutely no commitment. Look at his history. Few months here, few months there. And now hes too uncommitted to even say he wants to manage us next year. Definetly not the right man for the job. And for anyone saying we should keep a manager for the sake of consistency. If we did that we could still have Nigel Sparkman, or parkin, or Hodges. Leaving someone in a position just because of consistency makes no sense. You wouldn't tell your miserable mate to stay with his girlfriend who is constantly making bad decisions just because it keeps consistency for him
