I don't get what we'd get out of loaning players to clubs four or five tiers below us. If they are a bright prospect we should be looking for a better club or keep them where they are. The only players that should be going to that level is those that probably won't make it. Cowgill has been a prospect now for something like two or three years and rarely been around our first team even in league one. If we consolodate at championship level his chances will probably continue to be thin on the ground, but I hope he proves doubters wrong. Someone can be a diehard Barnsley fan but simply not have the money. So instead of just paying for themselves at Championship level might see it a better option for the same amount to take their kids to an OK level of football, to watch another Barnsley team and buy them a burger and drink.
its a pity we cant have a team playing at a lower level/ conference that our players can be loaned out to but close enough to oakwell so they can still be watched/monitored................................................................
No thanks. Conflict of interest in the town ,especially if they get into conference and play home games same time as us . And even if they did alternate weekends towns not geared up or financially placed to support a Championship side and a rival imo
Think you are under estimating the difference that competitive football has over these development side matches we play in which don't really matter on the grand scale of things. Players develop that extra sharpness and focus when the result means something. I get what your saying about trying to get players into league 1 or 2 clubs but realistically that is proving harder to do, especially with the amount of youth players the prem send out on loan to these teams. Conference is probably about the level we are going to get success in getting players experience playing in before they make the final leap to the first team contention or prove themselves not the required standard.. I think they as in Shaw Lane will probably realise their ambition of making the conference in the not too distant future.. 2 more leagues is it?
i would not want bfc to be linked with shaw lane. just out of interest - have you any connection to shaw lane at all ? your previous posts suggest some type of affiliation/affection for them.
I don't know anyone in local football with anything good to say about them. A lot of it due to youth football
My son plays for their under 16s. That apart, I've no affinity with them at all. He joined what was then Barugh JFC at 5 years old. Good family club, fundraising, parent sponsorship, red shirts etc. One of the dad's must have sponsored them thousands from his business in terms of training gear, kits, balls, referees fees and so on. Then in come Aquaforce - changed everything, not just the colours. No consideration for what others had done or put into all levels of the club. Felt a bit like an MK Dons franchise deal. You also have to question the path for the junior players. Historically, Barugh FC, like Athersley Rec and Penistone Church (who both told Aquaforce where to go when approached I think), had a route for players to go from under 6's to first team. I can't see that now as much of the current first team have been purchased. In context, all these are minor personal gripes really but outside of the first team nothing seems to matter. Not how a community club should be run IMHO.
If they got to the conference then maybe, don't think the standard or the environment is right at the minute for a young pro, he'd probably go backwards in his development.
Local team. Community club? Funded by a cash cow! Great set up for local lads to play junior footy. Fair play! 1stXI - lads from all over Yorks, Lincs, NE, NW etc. all local lads who got them to that level have been fooked off! That's ok if that's the clubs plan but in my eyes a 'local' non league club should support local lads. Not give £100's to 'outsiders'. So that begs the question?!? It's ok for folk to watch em when it's good. They've no history apart from buying players and leagues. Let's be Reyt. If they last as long as Rec (whove never paid a penny) I'll eat my words. Local MK Dons!
I think it'll end in financial tears at some point. Keep hearing whispers about them needing bigger gates to cover costs and wages. If the top man decides he's had enough then they're doomed. No natural affinity for anyone, unlike Athersley Rec, Penistone Church etc. We all still call our lads team Barugh FC
