The west side does not want bulldozing , us who sit there love it& if it upsets you looking at it then tough , try looking at the game instead because thats what I do from my seat & I get a cracking view of the match & thats why I value sitting there , fans like you do my head in , you want to go to a three sided ground because you do not like the view , why not think about fellow reds fans who would lose their seats who have sat there for years & before you say that they could sit elsewhere then they already have that option but choose to support the club from the seats they value .
As I've asked before what makes your view better than the same seat in the east stand? In other words what's the reason you choose the west with no roof at the front, asbestos in the upper tier, pillars in view of the upper tier, a toilet with no roof and no internal facilities other a modern east stand? Ps, I agree it would be pointless bulldozing it without replacing it. That serves no purpose unless the structure was unsafe.
I sit on the second row from the back in the open seats just beyond the halfway line thus do get some protection from the roof , having sat in in the East stand I can assure you that the west stand is far warmer & regarding the facilities you point out well I hardly use them , I am not spending the day there, I am there for a couple of hours, do not require food & drinks etc , there are no pillars in front of me & my view is perfect & regarding the asbestos the ground has a safety certificate & the fans are in no danger of developing asbestosis , I think it is ironic that fans who express the most concern about the stand are the ones that do not use it , quite bizarre
I also much prefer the view from the West Stand lower to the East. Just feels more cosy. However, I don't see why building a new stand there would change anything for the worse, providing it was just as close to the pitch.
Totally disagree with a three-stand stadium. I suspect it’s a tiny minority that would favour that. However I think many would agree it needs replacing. It’s in a terrible state now, and I do wonder how much longer it has before it’s condemned. Personally think it’s totally doable, to build a new West Stand that remains faithful to the current one in terms of design and capacity, but brought up to modern standards. As for the red wall. Would be great if we could find a way to keep it with a new stand, but I doubt we could, unless it was rebuilt after. However under any circumstances, new stand or not, at least get rid of the ‘kin broken glass! Zero justification for that still being there.
What you describe is the sort of thing that longer time fans will not care about because they are just there to watch the game, but could put off any newer fans from coming back if they don't enjoy their day. I'd say the same about the Ponty end concourse, and the fact we can't use all of the car parks. As for safe standing, we can't even safely use around 7,000 of the seats in the stadium, so will be a jump to get to safe standing. Also, it doesn't look all that appealing anyway, when you consider rugby grounds have normal terracing, with plenty of crush barriers to avoid overcrowding.
Years ago, when we played in baggy kits. We also had it confirmed this summer that it's no longer fit for the Premier League.
