Whilst the Rory/Poults combo is a disaster this isn't the worst start. Could end up 2-2, 3-1 to the US, or 2.5 to 1.5 in the US' favour. Not overly worried with either of those scores all things considered.
Got to have Hovland, Rahm and Casey out in all the games. These lads seem to get better the more they play a course.
I’d be delighted with 3-5 down come the end of the day the way things stand. Looking very much like 1-3 going into the afternoon.
The US Team have played some brilliant golf to be fair. But we've been awful at times. Definitely masters of our own downfall. 3-1 is a fairly common opening session score though so whether you've lost by 5 or 1 it's irrelevant heading in to this afternoon.
I played Whistling Straits in 2019, it is absolutely massive with 1001 bunkers. 7800 yards off the tips. Seriously tough golf course and these players make it look so easy. I really can’t see past a U.S. win but then again it’s been like this before. Should be a great three days viewing.
It's brilliant viewing but it usually turns into a putting competition, problem is Westwood, Casey and Mclroy don't knock enough 10 footers in .
Much happier with the pairings this afternoon. Fleetwood and Hovland is the dream team for me and I think Rory will turn it on this afternoon with Lowry. Fully expect Weisberger to be our wild card and have a great weekend.
Do you have a link to the pairings mate? Can't find them anywhere - time for a flutter I think. Edit - found them cheers.
Europe looked a bit soft this morning. We need to get these yanks into a scrap. Mclroy needs to puff his bloody chest and get striding out in front.
Surprised that Poulter/McIlroy were paired together. My theory is you want people off the tee who hit the ball similar distances so the round feels like any other. Then you pick players who compliment the weakness of their partner. Rory however is an average of 35 yards longer off the tee than Poulter. That's the difference between a 7 iron and a 4 iron on longer approaches. That's handy if Poulter is a great iron player to hit Rory's good drives, but he's not. That leaves Rory hitting his approach shots from 35 yards further back and that probably negates Poulter's strength, putting. Anyhow 3-1 is OK. Not preferred, but OK. Need at the least to draw these 4 balls, can't afford to lose much more ground.
my knowledge on golf is as bad as my knowledge on anything else. but every time I've watched Rory McIlroy, he's been gash.
Two options with Sergio. Keep the momentum going and play him this afternoon but rest him all day tomorrow for the singles. Or pair him with Rahm again tomorrow. Imagine the decision was made prior to seeing him perform so well this morning.
On fire with his approach play! If it wasn’t for some obscene putting from the US we’d be up in a couple of these.
Yanks are dialled in big time, this could get ugly quickly. We're not playing poorly, the Yanks are just playing unreal shots. Every chip is close, or shaves the hole. Their putting is insane.
We’re not playing great. We’re missing the chances they’re giving us which is letting them off the hook and allowing them to play. Deadly off the greens though
