Shame about Rose. Whereas I had a horrible feeling Poulter, Westwood and co would crumble in majors. I always got a sense that Rose could win if he was in contention. I'm amazed his only major was back in 2013. I really thought he'd add to that during his purple patch.

2011 to 2014 Rose for me was unplayable, best in the world by a mile.

Need to settle down here, just hit the fairways don't matter about distance. Iron play and attacking the flag is what grinds opposition down in matchplay.

Look on Poulter's face when he was booed.

Didn’t let it affect him though. See Westwood’s weakness with the putter has surfaced early. Hope it’s not setting tone for rest of his round.

Poulter had that look in his eye

Westwood and Fitzpatrick already looking a weak pairing. 2 down after 3 and both missed short putts.

Westwood and Fitzpatrick was always the riskiest pick out of the teams today. Didn't make sense to me at the time and doesn't look to be paying off so far.

Long way to go though as the US v Spain match up shows. Tied, down, tied, up, tied. Lots of golf to play.

Rory needs to up his game , shocker of a bunker shot and that chip at the first was a bit embarrassing

Maybe he put them together because of their locality I.e Worksop and Sheffield. Couple of Northern lads working together for the team, although it doesn't look like they're quite good enough at the moment.

Possibly. I think it was more likely to be the experience of Westwood to help Fitzy get over how poor his first Ryder Cup experience was. Also trying to use Westwood's approach play and Fitzpatrick's putting. I just think better golfers have been left on the 'bench' this morning.

If we come out of this session 2-2, I think we've done well...

Lowry and Fleetwood are very similar, hope they get a chance together. Poulter and Hatton could be a firey pair, could go one way or the other.

Incredibly well. Every point gets us closer to the target of 14.

Don't forget the US haven't been behind after the first session since the early 2000's. Something like eight Ryder Cups ago (someone will be more exact than me).

Not be good for team morale to see McIlroy and Poulter getting thrashed like this.

I honestly think this pairing was put together to try and get Rory firing early and give him confidence, rather than the other way round. I'm not worried about Poulter, Rory hasn't got a great Ryder cup record.

Medina was halved and as you say, US have finished in front of rest

They could be first to get in the clubhouse the way it’s going

Will McIlroy & Poulter take their game beyond the 10th? Not looking likely at the moment.

McIlroy & Poulter need a rest this afternoon - terrible 3 putt there - only pair on the course without a birdie.
