Did I not say, it was incredibly generous and he may not have got it back? Those exact words in fact. I wasn't saying it was a loan in a traditional sense or that he had any other motives. Just stating that he did in fact get all of the money back so he didn't actually spend anything on the club. And the family have kept a stake to you could argue he turned a profit on the club.
Not quite true. He wrote off loans to both the club and oakwell community assets. It was a few years ago but iirc it was around £5m in total although I am a bit sketchy on the exact amount.
My understanding was that all this was covered when the consortium bought the club, that the "price" was to reflect what had been put in by Cryne. Happy to hold my hands up if I've got I wrong that is just how I read the situation.
He bought the club, loaned the club money then wrote off some of those loans. He also sold the club. I have no idea if he put more in than he got out.
He got lucky didn't he? (Other than with health. Which he would have traded his wealth for, no doubt). Not so much because he wanted to sell. But because we couldn't afford not to. The length of the contracts of our good players was not long enough when it looked like we were competitive in the Championship. That is almost understandable, when 5 months earlier we were bottom of League 1. And we thought all the players were going to div 2. There's no perfect answer to all of this
By writing the loans off he will probably have enhanced the value of the club when sold. However at the time the loans were written off a sale wasn’t on the cards. I’m not suggesting that pc didn’t benefit overall, just commenting that at one time he did contribute money that would not need to be repaid by the club.
