It's the one vitamin supplement that nearly all medical professionals recommend and will help with all manner of health issues.
Hope you're feeling better soon. Have no doubt you will be but I'm not underestimating how crap you'll feel. Assuming you're self-isolating, which it sounds like you are, I'd recommend not getting tested. Either you have Covid-19 or another variation of seasonal influenza. Both are viruses and both have almost identical means of transmission. Both will leave you infectious to others for the same amount of time. Follow the guidelines for Covid-19 regarding self-isolation and it will be good for either. If you stay at home and don't have visitors the chances of you passing on either to anyone are just about zero. Go out to get tested and your chances of passing on either go through the roof. Obviously, if your symptoms worsen, and if you have any breathing difficulties, seek medical attention. I can't over stress just how important it is to go to the hospital if you begin having breathing difficulties. But can't think of a reason to leave the house to get tested. Hope you manage to sleep and the symptoms soon pass.
You can also boost your immunity through breathing techniques and cold exposure therapy. Google Wim Hoff, I’ve not had so much as a cold for two years
We've ordered a home test. They come to you dressed in space suits and take the swab. Wouldn't dream of going out right now, and indeed would struggle. I'm staying hydrated as per the guidelines, and even the associated trips to the bog are a mission, bearing in mind how crap I feel. One of my best friends is a GP, and he recommends getting one of those machines that measure the saturation of oxygen in the blood (turns out we have one, as my missus is a hypochondriac). He says that tracking this can literally be the difference between life and death, as you don't actually start to feel unwell until you're a long way down the line with this. So, if you notice that your saturation level is under 92%-93%, you should call the doctor. You're likely to be put on oxygen, and that should be enough. But once you've gone past a certain level, that's when you're looking at a ventilator, and things become a lot more touch and go.
Try not worry. At your age the chances of it going to your lungs are tiny. But that's great advice from your friend. You sound like I felt, I literally crawled to the loo. As you said, there's nothing to recommend it, but you'll get better soon. At least the men in space suits will be a story you can tell and our brains are kind to us in that they try to forget just how sh1tty we felt.
I didn't realise you'd had it. How long were you ill for? I'm 42, non-smoker and generally healthy (though slightly overweight) so generally low risk, but not so young that I can be blasé about it.
I'm not allowed to say I had it as tests weren't available at the time, but I had it. 5 or 6 days the fever lasted along with fatigue, severe head ache and general aches and pains. No cough, no breathing problems. Hardly slept for a week. I'm 48 and a heavy smoker. Felt a bit fragile for another week after that OK. I'd love to offer you advice but you just have to ride it. I would say if you're not taking vitamin D it's never too late to start. You'll be hard pressed to find an expert who doesn't recommend it for all manner of health benefits. Probably won't help with your current infection but may help the speed at which you feel back to normal once you're through it. Certainly won't hurt.
This is great advice. I’ve been a little surprised by the lack of government promotion for vitamin d (well I haven’t) given the amount of support from experts. There’s been loads of studies, articles etc in medical journals about and correlation with keeping ppl out of itu - and as @Jay says other associated health benefits
We take vitamin D every day anyway, and I've upped the dosage since I came down with this virus. With regards to sleeping, another doctor recommended taking one Claritin or other antihistamine before going to sleep. I did that last night and slept much better than I had the night before.
You could always follow the sound advice of the President of Belarus: take saunas and drink Vodka. Seemed to work for him.
