Also quite resistant to acting on reports of serial abuse within the Catholic Church, guess you can't have everything.
Same, until I was about 16, gained a voice and the pub on a Sat night, meant church on a Sunday morning was less appealing.
Except the letter I assume you refer you said nothing about not reporting them to the police, it was about keeping the alleged perpetrator and victims name secret while any internal investigation happened- something by the way many people believe should happen when someone is arrested - many innocent people get their name dragged through the mud before any trial takes place.
It's difficult to believe, as a species, we'll ever top the promotion to the position of Pope a Nazi who attempted to cover up child sex abuse. But I think we should try. Nick Griffin as the next Arch Bishop of Canterbury? Vladimir Putin as Secretary General of the United Nations?
https://www.irishtimes.com/world/20...esponsibility-for-child-sex-abuse-in-ireland/ What a chap. Was happy to criticise child sex abuse as long as it was kept under wraps. Horrendous leader of a horrendous institution.
Nothing to do with the Catholic religion as its the most practiced religion in the world. More to do with someone abusing their power. Good riddance.
I think power is abused in most walks of life people get in these positions to abuse their status and trust. You only have to look at the likes of Jimmy Savile, Police, politicians etc it doesn't represent the religion as a whole which is the most practiced in the world. Think we had a discussion about religion a while back when I pointed out the whole of England would be Catholic if Henry the 8th hadn't wanted more wives and you made your opinion clear. Like I said good riddance to the scumbag
Religion is particularly bad though as those in positions of power claim to be doing God's work and are often trusted by those they take advantage of and abuse. The fact its the most practiced in the world has little relevance to me as I see all religion as very similar. We agree 100% on the scumbag part though.
As an aside. I think undercover policing is an abuse of power. Being complicit in crime to gain a conviction. It's extremely murky.
I think that's a bit misleading. CofE members would probably be Catholic, definitely not "the whole of England"
