I played a lot as a kid. Then didn't play again for years until a mate from work got me back into it and I was ten times the player I was as a kid. Then I went a couple of times about three years back and was total ***** lost loads of balls and started topping it all the time. It was proper embarrassing. I was wondering whether it was weight gain that had affected my swing as I was like a rake until my mid twenties.
I swing left handed, cricket or golf, but I'm right handed. I think I was given right handed clubs many a time at Elsecar and that has put me off golf.
Best bet is to get a lesson or two if you go back. Unless of course you're happy to hack it round - as some people are I did a lot of cycling, then stopped and played golf for 6 months and i was really surprised at how fit golf kept me when i eventually got back on the bike. Anyone who has hit 80+ shots round a golf course carting a set of clubs with them in the middle of summer will know that being 'golf fit' is a thing!
I kick a ball left footed, write left handed, throw left handed, but bat at cricket and play golf right handed - although putting I can do either way. One advantage of left handed clubs is the second hand ones are cheaper!
They're the national restrictions implemented by the government/golf association collaborating. Same for every course across the country and makes perfect sense. Positive step forward.
