I have always preferred Rovers to City, living in Bristol myself. It makes me cringe when I see the huge Bristol City billboards close to Temple Meads and on Bath Road near to where I live. They really do have ideas above their station. Gas heads seem to be much more down-to-earth and accept their lot. South of the river is now seen as a desirable place to live due to gentrification of the area (Southville - or, 'Lower Clifton', as the snobs like to call it - and North Street etc). The council also want to build on/transform Cumberland Basin (or 'Western Harbour, as they're calling it). They are saying it will bring affordable housing etc but I really can't see it being the case, nowhere in Bristol is really affordable any more and the new development, if it goes ahead, will just be an extension of an already overpriced harbour. It's a shame, because the Cumberland Basin is an unspoilt green area (except the ugly flyover) and building on it will just extend the ever-expanding concrete jungle, and probably spoil the view to the bridge/Hotwells etc.
