Its a tough comparison though, because we've paid with 3 centre backs since the day Stendel left, and the current wing backs are better than Cavare and Pinillos imo.

I think only Connell and Phillips get into Stendel's team. Maybe Williams, but if your defence is good enough that you don't need Cavare to ever defend I can see the argument for choosing him.

I guess Jordan William's might be the best to offer an opinion on that one.
I've looked at both squads and it's too close to call.
So, boring I know. but I'm going for a draw.

I could go with that maybe Kane for Phillips would be exciting to watch and have a serious chance in the championship

I'd say stendel had a better squad to choose from. He had a player in pinnock who looked miles too good for league one and has played premier league football for the past 2 seasons. Kieffer Moore who's now at a prem team and the majority who are in the championship.

I prefer mads to lindsay though who I always thought was very over rated.

If the played with the 2 coaches one was a very attacking team with a good defence. This team is one of the most well organised barnsley teams I've seen and when they get a lead can shut the opposition out.

But what about either of them against the Hammill, Hourihane 2016 team?

For most of the season, yes. For the last month... Dunno. Although I think Woodrow and Moore wouldn't have much trouble scoring against our current defence.

Stendel’s team was better in almost every position. There aren’t many in this squad who’d get in that eleven. Maybe Mads over Lindsay but Mads isn’t that great in a back four. JW is great - but Cavare was a beast that season. Connell over McGeehan for sure - but I’m struggling to get anyone else in. Cadden I wouldn’t play as an out and out fullback, maybe he’d push Thiam for a place on the left wing. Davies, Cavare, Pinnock, Pinillos, Brown, Mowatt, Moore, Woodrow - all walk into this team I’d say. Maybe not Cavare, wouldn’t work hard enough for Duff! If we switched from the 4-4-2 of that team to the 3-5-2 of this, you’d maybe get another one or two in.

The fact Duff has got this team up to fourth in the league shows that he is our biggest asset by a long way. It is a decent but not brilliant squad. The centre forwards comparison for example is chalk and cheese. Especially when you consider we had a raw Adeboyejo as back up too.

I loved Daniel Stendel but he isn’t even in the same conversation as Duff when it comes to head coaches / managers.

Had Duff got the squad Stendel had I’d wager we’d be up with the massives and Plymouth, maybe clear of them. Aside the players mentioned we had Kenny Dougall, Ryan Hedges, a young Callum Styles - I don’t think I’m being unfair to say that team was a much better one; this one is much better coached and organised.

To answer the question though is difficult. Duff would out-think Stendel tactically but I still think the other side might have a little too much. It was a better team than Luton that year, probably ought to have won the league. This current team is arguably overachieving looking at the other squads. Narrow win for the 18/19 team if I had to commit.

    Combined XI 3-5-2

    Davies

    Pinnock Andersen Lindsay

    Brown Connell Mowatt Phillips Cadden

    Moore Woodrow

    Combined XI 4-4-2

    Davies

    Cavare Andersen Pinnock Pinillos

    Brown Connell Mowatt Cadden

    Moore Woodrow
