You don't care if he's paying £4.50 a bottle and just making his usual 50p to provide a service to people who want it? He may have bought it cheap and be selling it at hyper inflated prices which is bang out of order but if he's had to lay out serious money to get it for his customers then what's he done wrong?
No-one is forcing him to buy it from the wholesaler. If I was a shopkeeper and the wholesaler was price-hiking and profiteering from essential goods, I'd report them to the local rag and trading standards. These shopkeepers are just taking the ****. Hand sanitizer at £9.99? Toilet roll at £5 for six? They're having a laugh. The shop near me is 100 ft from Aldi, if they really cared about the community and people getting their essentials they'd keep the prices fair, or explain to the customer that the wholesaler is ripping them off, and customers would understand. Certain shops on my street have blatantly lied to the press about pricing and then backtracked with some slapdash story that 'cashier is new' or the labels got switched.
Do tesco still own one-stop? I think they still do but yes one stop shops are franchised out so it's down to the franchisee. Complain to tesco would be a good option I guess.
this is happening, company called multibrands are already stating prices will fluctuate due to market forces, some products are two/three times their previous costs
independent shops are also struggling to get hold of soap as well as hand sanitisers, disinfectants, toilet rolls etc etc and where they are available retailers are severly restricted on what they can take
Suppliers have put the price up by quite a bit as have the suppliers of the raw materials to make it. It has become almost impossible to buy the raw materials from anywhere in Europe as the Governments are claiming it for the Health Services. Manufacturer of the raw material is predominantly made in Malaysia etc, Malaysia currently have their factories working at 50% capacity and have banned all movement of people and products for commercial purposes due their issues with this virus. That said I don’t believe the current products on sale are effected by the lack of raw materials.
I’m not condoning price hikes for one second. However, I don’t think everyone increasing prices is doing it for profit. Or even seeing the profit. Entire global supply chains are being massively impacted. Obviously lots of c.nuts out there taking the pi$$ like
He says hes getting some bog rolls in this afternoon, £15, if you want the tube with it - £18. I've done with him, l only called in for a stealth bottle of wine under the cover of darkness.
It's like Direwatch. For what it's worth, I'm right with you if they're profiteering, but it's difficult to know if it's them doing it or the wholesaler. A small local shop has very little influence on wholesale prices compared to a supermarket.
