OH dear! What a ridiculous headline...

Some yes. Many no.

Despite the perception people have of everyone having sky I think that's absolutely rubbish. I had it but recently cancelled and at work out of the 8 of us in my department at the start of last year I was the only one who had sky. Only two of the 10 in the office had it and in the other department I regularly see none had it.

In my entire extended family only my dad has sky.

 

Totally back her up on this - taught in some of the roughest areas of Liverpool and get far more from them and the parents tend to be onside and grateful for everything you do for them. I have also taught in private schools( Premiership footballer's kids attend as well as TV celebrities kids) and schools in more well to do areas. I know which I prefer!

I just don't like the way if I have to watch live TV I have to pay the BBC. Seems massively outdated.

 

I'd also say that if those at the BBC think their output is so good and so appealing to the population then they shouldn't have any worry about allowing the public to choose whether or not o pay for it

 

Even 'those at the BBC', while believing it's great value for money (all that content, for all tastes, for every household, for the price of one high-street coffee a week), don't disagree that the licence fee is a slightly antiquated way of generating revenue. However, no-one has yet come up with an alternative that doesn't destroy everything about the corporation that works well, allowing it to provide something for everyone. Ideas on a postcard, please!

Years of attack from the right-wing press and successive Tory governments, who can't abide the mere idea of something in the public sector being so successful, have achieved their aim of painting the licence fee as a tax, rather than a small outlay for something so wide-reaching and popular to most.

 

I watched BBC news whilst at my next door neighbours house on NYE, first time i have watched the news properly since about 8 years ago maybe. It was 25 mins long if i remember correctly, there was 5 mins on Brexit, 5 mins on Coronavirus and the other 15 mins where interviews with regular people about the subjects. Dont waste my time feeding me your opinions via Sally and Stephen from wherever.

Hopefully it will be a long time until i have to endure the news again

 

But aren’t your opinions formed from information, events and experiences you take in over the years? You need the latest information otherwise you’re stopping that process. And the very latest information is ‘news’ which you evaluate based on previous information and experience. In that way your opinions are confirmed or sometimes changed. Otherwise you'd close your mind.

 

....and some extra stuff announced today. Extra cost? Er......no.
