Good interview and hopefully given the full backing of the new board. Welcome Michael, I hope you bring us something to cheer about.
I particularly liked the comment about seeing us as the next step towards achieving his ambition. Oh,,, hang on…….
I think he meant a bit of disruption in his family life rather than uprooting them. They'll stay in Cheltenham and he's got the thankless task of constant living out of a suitcase
Mind you, I did think that his speech was the best I have seen from any new manager in several years, and he really does seem to grasp the size of the task. And to only have had 2 clubs in 27 years has to be a record for ANY previous Barnsley manager. (Not head coach, he's the gaffer, end of...)
You mean professional footballers I assume. I also assume you’ve never been on the same pitch as any.
Can hardly call some of them professional footballers afters last season's efforts so I stand by what I put. Hopefully Duff sorts them out.
Welcome to Barnsley Michael may your God shine not only you but the doubters who won't have the patience to allow you to settle in Big shout out to Khalid and the board who listened to what many supporters asked for a UK based coach who knew the league If things work out for both parties and give MDs loyalty and work ethic to his employers are we witnessing a new dawn ....that sees the new jonny steele emerg.
They get paid to play football. That’s the definition of a professional footballer. I also know from personal experience that any one of them is way, way, better at playing football than any of their critics could ever hope to be.
His connection with Disco will be a big plus for him. It will help him to learn about the club and the fans much quicker. If he's been talking to him as much as he says in the interview he should be half way there already. Plus he already has a direct link to the Academy and U23's. Let the good times roll!
I can’t say enough how much I enjoyed listening to a no nonsense, non hyperbolic, down to earth, common sense opening interview. Obviously we’re nowhere near being able to judge things on the pitch, and I suspect when we start the season, our squad will look very different to what we see now. But as I’ve said before, I’m willing to be patient. For day one though, good start, that’ll do me. Over to El Ahmad now to cut the costs and put our finances in a stable position while still giving Duff a squad he can do something with.
He has inherited a squad of underperforming players, and any who aren’t under performers are technically for sale. He has walked into a club whose fans are either distanced from the club or demand success. Yet he has the confidence in his own ability to believe that he can succeed here despite the obstacles in front of him. This is the first managerial appointment for a long, long time that I am truly happy with. Bring on the season!!!!!
Absolute breath of fresh air. Which in of itself is a bit mad, given all he’s done is just talk common sense. What we’ve been crying out for. Someone who just gets the basics what Football League is about.
