Was it the truth or His version ? He tried to tell us something that our History stated otherwise Keef that is
So basically you wanted him to spiel off rhetoric. The blokes won trophies with the most prestigious club in the world. Just like it was to Keith Hill, LJ, Flicker and by the looks Hecky. Barnsley is just a job to them. He’s come here to challenge himself. Why is that not acceptable? I’d rather hear that than hear him tell lies of how he fell in love with the club as soon as he walked into it.
I think you’re reading way too much into the response to one question of a man speaking in one of his seven languages in his first press conference at a new club. Especially in the days where watered down, media trained and cliched responses are the norm. Lets judge him on his ability to improve performances, not whether he can help Brad Potts and George Moncur understand the subtleties of Shakespeare and Chaucer.
Yeah but anyone could bleat platitudes about why they wanted the job. If he said it was "impossible to turn down the job offer" - because he always wanted to manage a championship team, that he wanted to try and take a small club into the premier league, that he wanted to show that the "plan" was capable of working if he was in charge, that he thought he could find an engine for Moncur or a position for Potts, a sense of awareness for Davies, a means by which we scored goals - would that have been better? It's all words, which boil down to a challenge for him. Plus it should be the club deciding what sets him apart, rather than him deciding what sets him apart. We've had the job interview. He's here to do the job. Whether he does it to our approval will yet remain to be seen. Getting up or down on what he says is energy wasted.
No, what I am saying is that I am fed up with new managers spinning fans a story about how their club is special, when it is as simple as you have outlined. Its a job that I am being paid well for doing.
You are right. Every interview with every new manager is unworthy of the time that we invest in listening to it. They all say something that they think the fans want to hear. The point is one that the debate has chosen to concentrate on, when I quoted it only to illustrate his poor grasp of English. I am sure had his English been better, he would have been able to come up with a reason that was far more convincing.
It’s perfectly acceptable for him to say he wants a challenge. I imagine he could pick up an assistant or analysis job at most clubs in Europe. He wants to challenge himself as a head coach and he’s got the opportunity to do that here. I don’t see what’s unacceptable about him saying that.
But your saying you were convinced by Keith Hill whom you said speaks the truth . He didn’t speak the truth as far as our History proves he spoke against it and told us we shouldn’t demand nor respect what our history had given . Now you may in your mind class that as the truth or telling it how it is I and many more totally oppose that and reject it wholeheartedly and didn’t believe that’s the truth or how it is . I’d rather someone come to the club and take him at face value when he says he’ll do his best for the club etc than dismiss him as charlatan and a phoney
I'm confused, you seem to be inconsistent with your expectations, perhaps it's just my poor grasp of the English language.
We have agreed on many subjects in the past imo more than we’ve disagreed on and Opinions on Keith Hill is one of them
Several things there. First I will deal with Keith Hill. I said he called a spade a shovel. As far as I am aware, that does not mean he spoke the truth. It means he spoke the truth as he saw it and was very blunt in the way he said it. I liked Keith Hill for his bluntness, no matter whether he was right or wrong. He saw things in a particular way and the way that he saw us as fans was the way that we see Sheffield Wednesday fans. That was partly to do with his background, and partly because he wanted the Barnsley fans to be realistic about the possibilities for their football team. Are we in any different position in the league as compared to Keith Hill's time. Not much. Does that make him right. I don't know. JM has not come to the club and said he will do his best. I could live with that. He has not come here and said he will work night and day to try to put things right. I could live with that as well. He has come here and said he has come for the challenge, and that does not set Barnsley apart from any other football club. I genuinely hope he does well, and I look forward to a time when you remind me of my stupidity. But only time can make one of us wrong. I hope it is me.
