We regularly have trouble in attracting players from the continent during the January transfer window. I've a mate, who I went to college with. Never see him (seen him twice in the last 13 years), but we keep in regular contact about football. He's a Wednesday fan, but otherwise, a nice chap. I was looking through our messages earlier for something, and noticed I'd messaged him in January 2019, saying we'd reportedly been after several players from Germany and France in that window, and all of them had turned us down, as they didn't want to move countries mid-season. In that window, I believe we only signed George Miller and Jordan Green.
Are the rules on signing players from the EU any different now we've cut ourselves adrift? Would think every non British player will need a work permit now, which if its the same for non-EU players, they need to play a certain number of games for their country, or be an a certain wage to qualify...
There are definitely new rules that effectively protect the Premier League in terms of entry qualifications. The article I read suggested that the days of clubs at our level signing players from Europe are basically over. The article cited Pukki at Norwich as being a player who would not have qualified under the new rules at the time he was signed.
