I think it will be fine in a couple of weeks, especially if your flight is early. They must have done a lot with all the negative press coverage.
Off to Italy to see our daughter. So far this is the longest time we have gone without seeing her in person. Modern tech like WhatsApp video is great, but it's not like the real thing
It’s a mixture of things. A lot of staff were sacked in the pandemic. Now they can’t recruit as they pay NMW. Also even if they do get applications, they have rigorous security and reference checks (they need to check every previous place if work) so the process takes a couple of months. There is also still high absence rates due to covid….
It was term time when we went and it was still chaos. Hopefully some of the staff shortages will be resolved by then but organisationally it could have been a lot better, for eg. we were stuck behind a bloke who didn't have a clue what needed to go into the security trays. Announcements to have stuff ready ( coat off, electrics out of bags etc) would have been useful. And not taken staff.
we landed back tues morning and by the belts for luggage collection there were literally 1000's of cases piled up not collected, tickets on cases at our belt were dated 30 march! it was like every passenger thought sod the wait, i'll come back another day
Ok, went through today. Ryanair emailed me Thursday warning to turn up 3 hours before the flight so we duly rocked up to T1 at 4 am. Met by a sea of people- quite surreal seeing so many people in the Middle of the night. Bag drop took 1hr 20 mins, meh. Security would have been another 1 hr I reckon but we had fast passes so we were through in about 15 minutes - best £30 I’ve spent for a while. I would say it’s “ok” - if you can believe that having to turn up 3 hours before a flight is in anyway “ok”. Also apparently there’s no more covid going on the number of people wearing masks in the terminal, that’s despite everyone wearing them on the plane as required.
Big thanks to all who replied to my original post...went thu airport yesterday and from parking at drop and go 5.15am. luggage drop and security was in departures at 8am..no worse than normal...
My eldest is there at the moment. Says it is busy but they were through security in an hour. Biggest issue was his GF having to ditch toiletries I'm there next week. Crossing fingers.
Got through ok this morning. No longer than I have seen before. Biggest delay was when someone's larger-than-a-suitcase 'hand luggage' got stuck in a scanner.
Sounds promising thanks for the update. How long before your flight did you get there out of interest?
We flew out last Sunday and the queues for the TUI check in were horrendous but fairly fast moving so not too bad in the end. We got to the airport 4 hours before our flight and easily made it through check in and security despite the long queues.
