I lived in Hull for 4 years (in the 70s) & liked the city - I lived in the next street to the KC stadium for one of those years. I’ve usually wanted Hull to do well (except v us) but, after reading some of their comments, I’m not so sure! I think some of them need to give their head a wobble!
Folk that lived in Hull didn't know they existed, they were averaging crowds of 3000 in the late 90s. Classic new stadium crowd.
I don't understand that! I never even realized there was any "rivalry" between the clubs. Certainly, no more than there is with any other non-Sheffield club or Leeds, for example.
I remember back in the mists of time, Yorkshire played county cricket in Hull, I believe that in the 60s they clinched the county championship when they won a game in Hull.
Multi millionaire I know spoils his lad rotten at Christmas. One year he asked for a train set, so my mate bought him a train and a railway line in North Yorkshire. Another time he wanted a chemistry set so he bought him an offshoot of ICI. For Christmas 2020 , he's asked for a cowboy outfit, so my mate is going to buy him Hull City.
There was never this much hatred for us in Hull previously don't know were it all comes from or what it's based on .. Most of the big hitters in Hull ran with the Leeds firm in the 70s.. Hull fc played second fiddle to the rugby in fact 3rd fiddle if you break it down considering the city is divided red and white black and white rugby wise... Before they moved into the Kc stadium Bootham crescent ( Boothferry Park... I stand corrected.. Its an age thing lol) was a quaint little homely but extremely cold ground when the wind blew from the direction of the North Sea I've spent many a happy hour with Billy big balls whitehurst and the rest of the lads at that time.. (Eddie Gray was the manager) in the players lounge after their mid week games ..also when I worked out of Hull whilst working for P & O I crewed and at times bunked in the same crew cabin with a fair amount of ardent Hull City fans some of whom were still part of the Hull firm in the 90s and there was never an ounce of animosity towards Barnsley as a club or town... I used to drink on a regular occasion around the town/ city and never had an ounce of trouble.. Unlike Barnsley lol... Seriously.. It looks like something has gone off to create this animosity towards us don't know what though... perhaps it's the bransholme estate mentality taking over..lol.. ( standing joke amongst most folk in Hull ) . Europe's biggest council estate by the way...
